Very impressive. Obviously too nice to be placed outdoors year round so I wonder if the tv station will come forward to have it moved, and if they do, moved where? If not outside that station perhaps in their lobby if they have room for it there. If not, then how about placing it in the town's Visitor Center or Bureau if Scranton has one or else in  Scranton's City Hall?

WNEP, the Scranton station with the now famous backyard train, actually sent a reporter and camera crew down to NYC today to check out the layout. Apparently it has already been partially dismantled since the show is on break for a few weeks, but they are seriously looking to move it to Scranton. There are two problems, however... the layout is 18' wide and 16' tall, so moving it, even in pieces, will be an issue, and they aren't sure that it will even fit in "the backyard". If they can get it to Scranton, it might be a good fit for the Steamtown National Historical Site.

I live 10 minutes from Scranton and saw this today as well. Thought it was funny. Callback 16 can be funny with all the idiots calling in. I don't understand why anyone would waste time doing that to complain about the train in the backyard.

The global store is far from being a new building. It maybe new to the owner, but that building has been around a long time.

I must respectfully disagree... other than if they keep doing the nostalgia Christmas windows, who is going to visit a city office building??? I still feel that Steamtown or The Marketplace at Steamtown (formerly known as the Mall) would be better home for the layout. Keep in mind, wherever it goes, someone will need to do ongoing maintenance, and I don't see the cash strapped city ponying up for that.

I think you can see why television and theater set designers find it natural to have a business creating "sets" (layouts) for model trains to act on. Roger Farkash (TW Trainworx) and Clark Dunham (Dunham Studios) come to mind. There are others.

The rotating display reminded me of the dealer display of the train that rotated a small circular display.

One can be fairly certain that the "set" would disassemble. That's how they build stuff.

The Marketplace at Steamtown, formerly the Mall at Steamtown, would be an ideal place to display something this size.  There is already a model train display on the second floor, Don Clark's miniature memories, and I am sure they would provide assistance as needed to keep the thing running smoothly.  And what could be a better backdrop for pictures with Santa?

To add a little more to this entertaining story, it seems a local Scranton man is production assistant on Oliver's TV show.  He mentioned how WNEP does the weather with the train in the background and the story evolved from there.  Most folks who have seen it are well wishers with the usual curmudgeons weighing in.  Their pathetic grievances have been noted.

Not sure how weather resistant the layout is. I don't think it would hold up very well in the snow. If they had space in the station's lobby, it would look cool there.

Since there is no real cover "in the backyard", you are on the money, Elliot. PA winters can be nasty. Some of the anchors have facetiously suggested putting it in the middle of the studio so everyone can watch the train all through the newscast instead of just during the weather!!! Not sure if they have enough room in the lobby, but I hope they decide to put it somewhere where the community can easily see it.
