I'm not aware of the real one ever using a caboose (several lighted passenger cars are on the train).

Regardless of whether the real one used a caboose, I'd LOVE a matching caboose - with Christmas lights - to go with my set.

I've got the Railking set on order. The cars are here (haven't picked them up yet from the LHS). My LHS did have a set of the cars opened and running on the layout (behind the MTH Evolution Hybrid with charging lights) as well as several of the flat cars with Christmas trees and Christmas lights. This will be a spectacular set!

Hoping that engine is here soon........

Are the boxcars all RailKing or do they make a RailKing set and a Premiere set of the same boxcars?

MTH initially announced the RailKing loco and cars.  Then I believe the Premier loco and cars were announced when the catalog was published (or very shortly before).  So you have your choice!  Here's a quick summary for each offering:

I wonder how many people ordered the Rail King version not knowing the Premier version was going to be announced as well.  The Rail King pre-orders were due before the catalog announcing the Premier version was released.  I wish they could've coordinated that better.

Thanks Rocky Mountaineer!  I think I'm going with the Premier set.  They just look so cool.  This will be my first MTH locomotive.  Can the MTH Premier loco's be run in conventional mode with the smoke on?  Lionel Legacy Diesels have a switch you turn on on the engine so it will still make smoke in conventional.  I hope MTH has the same feature.

Technically not a CP boxcars, but I wish they made this set in the premier line.

Dam.  Thanks for pointing that out WMC.  I'm really struggling to jump in for the CP Premier as it doesn't say Christmas on it.  I know that doesn't bother some folks, but it really bothers me..... Arghhhhh    I may have to settle for the RK version which isn't scale.  Oh well.  Still nice looking cars though.

I ordered the Railking CP cars but am opting to use a SOO locomotive for power.  The cars arrived last week from Mario’s Trains and they look great.  I’ve got one of the observation cars on backorder and also have a sleeper-diner set in the same paint scheme.  Can’t wait for them to run!  I did struggle a bit over which cars to order.  With the non-CP version you could run them behind whatever power you wanted and they’d look fine.

I ordered the 4 RK Christmas cars which I recieved last week and all I can say is wow. They are 50' box cars and they are close to scale.

The engine which is a dash 8 is RK scale and it is due middle of November.

For those who don't have the space for larger radius track the RK IMPERIAL and RK SCALE is the perfect alternative to the more scale trains like premier from MTH.

Dave, my new layout can handle scale stuff.  But I also ordered MTH's RailKing version of this offering, because the ever-so-slightly smaller size just "looks better" in some vignettes on the layout.  I'm finding some of the modern RailKing stuff is not dramatically different in size from the true-scale Premier line.  For example, MTH has been offering the FM diesel locos in RailKing, and they're so close to scale it's not even worth mentioning they're not.

If you want to expand your CP Holiday consist, put a short container on a flat car and create the generator car. Add a waving Santa to the back of the obs and you've got it all. Other details an be a short Christmas tree on the top of the cab and US and Canadian flags behind the cab.  There are quite a few pictures and videos on the net to follow for more details. Santa, by the way had a loud speaker and greeted folks along the trip. A local rep from the CP safety committee played Santa.

For many years it was my job as pilot-conductor at the Scranton site to coordinate servicing the power and generator with fuel and water for the cars, while fouling tracks in the middle of excursions, local shuttles and DL locals and grain trains. I sure miss those days. Made a lot of friends on CP.

No Idea but I'm hoping that the engine ships soon so we can have it this xmas...

Well, I was at my local train store today and they told me this engine won't ship until January.  I looked at the MTH web site and it confirms that.

Very disappointing...  Let's deliver 1/2 the Christmas train before Christmas and the other half after.  I know, I know, manufacturing problems... customs... whatever.  It is still disappointing.

Seriously? WTF.....there is still hope but it seems every year MTH's Holiday products show up AFTER said holiday.

Got the red and green lighted RK boxcar set from Mr Mruffin, hooking them to the Rk red and white Christmas diesel with charging lights. Adding some MTH Christmas box cars and a red and green caboose from MTH that has a waving Santa with a red lantern! Looks great and the Grandkids love it! Add to that two houses with Christmas lights, the Christmas roadside stand with lights and the Christmas lighted Country station and life is good! LOL

This will definitely put a damper on a train that would otherwise generate great excitement in the next month.  I remember a couple of years ago when the Gold Polar Express and Scale Polar Express actually made it before Christmas.  It was just an exciting time.  Many people have been looking forward to the CP Holiday train and when the engine arrives after the holiday, the excitement will be lost.  Oh well, things happen.  I have plenty of other Christmas trains to run and my wallet appreciates some more time before this engine comes in too.

Well now... in this thread alone, we have THREE different arrival dates for the locomotive:  mid-November, mid-December, and JAN 2018.    Websites have been wrong in the past, so let's hope for the best.  After all, MTH personnel were tossing around the December date, which is what the website is showing for the UP and NS versions of this locomotive with LEDs.  So let's see what happens.
