Wow-ee, dual hats for you now as both Publisher and Advertising Sales Manager for OGR. That's a tall order to fill but if anyone is capable of doing both in top-notch fashion, it's most certainly you! Congrats and best wishes for a very long OGR run, and remember to always set aside some "me" time for working on that superb layout you've "birthed"!!!

I've been on the road all day in the OGR Mobile Raw Nerve Center, so I'm a little late to this thread. I hope the new Publisher will forgive my tardiness!

Alan, I wish you all the best as you take the engineers seat on this fast-moving train. The job briefing has taken place, the original engineer has been relieved and the new engineer is now on duty.

I know that OGR's future is is good hands.

Time to head to beans, Rich!

Best of luck Alan. Was great meeting you at York, talking just a bit(as I was getting ready to roll out). I will never forget before actually popping on here before joining the forum, one of the most astonishing moments was seeing your video on youtube and the fantastic layout you have. I was blown away by what was going on. There are some great layouts on youtube, but I would say(just by seeing the engine view from yours), that there is so much more to see. I am going to have to check out to see how many other videos you have on there.

Can't wait for issue 297(as well as Rich's last 296).

I am very happy for your promotion and you truly deserve it as you have really worked hard for past few years as OGR's advertising manager. I know that OGR is thriving because of your hard work and you have been always driven and focused in achieving your goals. Again, congratulations Alan!

Ricky

You've heard the old saying, ..."best possible situation"... well, this is a perfect example.  When I was first aware of the changes coming, my one biggest concern is the best possible outcome for the magazine.  The addition of Alan as Publisher guarantees that O Gauge Railroading will be guided by someone who has O gauge trains in his blood!

Congratulations Alan!  We welcome you with open arms!

Now, for your big test:....  "LASH-UP,  ....  LASH-UP,  ....    LASH-UP"

(....did he pass out yet?...)

Jim,

Yes I was worried too!  But as you said, it is the best possible situation!  I am very glad Alan agreed to take over as publisher!!

I wish Alan and all the staff well!  Thank you everyone, and especially Rich for his legacy!!

I am waiting for Rich to pop on and tell us that Jim will be working on a 50 part series on the complete construction of Hoover Dam and the railroad that helped construct it(see link).

I'm late to the party here, but have been trying to get Run 297 (Feb. issue) organized and into the hands of our design team (not to mention dealing with contractors as I try to get my house ready before the snows fly).

Congrats, of course, to Alan way out there in Arkansas! I'm confident that we will accomplish increasingly better things as OGR moves forward into a new era. Should be fun! And it's always nice to be earning a living while doing your hobby.

No question you will be a fantastic publisher.   Hat's off to every who came before you and helped make OGR what it is today.  We are all very lucky to have you taking the helm going forward.

PS When you get a chance can you get one of your personal staffers to take some pictures of the inside of the OGR corporate jet ?   We all know it exists so why not let us see it !

Best of luck and happiness in your new role.

Ed

What was really cool is I had no idea that there was a railroad museum there. I knew that railroads, and a whole other host of things were used to get stuff the to build it, but I dropped my jaw when I saw the tube with the steam engine in it.

Good luck taking the helm of an excellent O gauge publication. This is still a big hobby, its always evolving and it seems like there is always more to do.  All things must change and it is hoped that Rich Melvin will enjoy his semi-retirement and that you will enjoy your new position at OGR. Always said that OGR was the best publication out there!

Congratulations Alan from here in Tennessee, and thank you for all your kind help in getting my mid americal 3 railers insignia set up in my forum responses.  You will be a great publisher and will be a really great asset to the magazine, the video, and The Hobby.  I wish you and your family and friends the very best. I hope to see you at York in April or October of 2018.
