Fixed the problem my S2 set not that it makes it right but I Installed one articulated coupler on the engine end of the lead car and train works as advertised on O36 track. It would appear that the couplers on the S2 just dont have enough swing to accomodate the fixed couplers running on the O36 track. You would think that for a small $ 900.00 set they could have installed some better couplers . Oh well

Can this be the same problem as Lionel’s Legacy reissue of K-Line’s 2-truck shay which did not have sufficient room/range for the coupler to operate on the advertised 0-36 or 0-31 curves? Lionel did not offer the extended range K-Line provided coupler guide bracket.  I wish Lionel or someone would make that shay part.

Yep. I have that problem with the Shay. I wired a car to the loco coupler and it works fine after that. Still, with the S2 being a set, it should handle the curves stated in its specs 100% without tinkering. IMO.

I don't have the set but I did get the individual S-2 #115 for Christmas.  I've been running it with some Lionel Baby Madison NYC passenger cars on O-36 for the past week or so and thus far I haven't had any problems with the curves.  (There are two O-36 switches in the route as well, if that's relevant.)

I agree with the earlier opinions that I've found it to be a very smooth-running engine.  But I still haven't figured out how to get all the Legacy features unlocked or uploaded because it doesn't come with an orange Legacy module.

Hi, do your cars have articulated couplers ?

Yes, I checked over the weekend and the cars have articulated couplers.  I haven't had any problems so far on O-36 curves and switches.  (Knock on iron.)

Hi. Thanks for the reply, I don't think you will have any problems as long as you have the articulated couplers. The problem seems to be with fixed which is what Lionel has put out on the cars in the set. I changed one of the set cars to articulated and no more trouble on 036 curves.

I can only get the bell to ring momentarily on mine. I wonder if I’m not doing something right?

Hold the bell lever up exactly 1.75 seconds and then let go. It takes a few tries to get it right. It will then sustain the ringing. Then marvel at what technology can do in animating a train bell. 😀

I also can't keep the bell ringing.  I wonder if it has to do with the moving bell.  It won't keep it ringing so that you can't burn out the mechanism that makes the bell move.  I wish there was something in the manual about it as this is the only Legacy locomotive I can't keep the bell ringing on.

I have the same issue with mine. If I put it in TMCC mode it will ring continually. It's not a matter of not holding it for the correct amount of time. All I can think of is maybe the Legacy version 1.52 I'm running.

I have the "tinplate" version of this loco,i only have tmcc,as I have really no other lionel engines, the book that came with it ,said can be used with tmcc,it runs and when I hit the bell switch the bell moves ,but no sounds or horn,,,but will agree runs very smooth,do I need to get a legacy controller to get horn and bell sounds? thanks terry

Yes I have trouble with the operation of the bell too.  And I'm running version cab 1.52 and base 1.51, could this be it?

I have the lime green S-2 road number 4513L Lionel Lines  #6-84513 (on the locomotive box) that came in the set #7-84512 (on the box) or in the catalog listed as set #6-84512.

In Legacy Mode the bell does not work "single hit or continuous bell sounds", but everything else works just fine. With an instant or short duration hit of the bell slide activation switch on the cab-2, I get a sequence of 4 bell rings, not a single hit of the bell.

When sliding the bell activation switch for that longer prescribed duration (about 1.75 seconds or so) I get a sequence of 6 bell rings, then no more, but not the continuous bell sound.

With no orange module, of course one has now to upload the legacy data from the engine on the track into the cab 2 equipment by addressing your engine no., now you're in TMCC cab 1, press info, and guide the loading of the data for this locomotive for the Legacy Mode manually. I hope I'm explaining this and doing this correctly, for I am no whiz at this stuff by any means. When coming to the place to add sounds, one has a choice of 'railsounds', 'railsounds 5', and 'Legacy railsounds'. After several attempts loading 'Legacy railsounds', everything loads successfully EXCEPT THE BELL OPERATION data, because the bell will not run single hit or continuous after the CTC button returns the locomotive back to the run mode.  If you insert 'railsounds' or 'railsounds 5' however, you can get the bell to ring continuous, but you can't get a single hit, and you loose some of your other Legacy features such as turning your cab light on or off.

Since I like the continuous bell a lot, like when running down past station platforms, I'll leave my locomotive with 'railsounds 5' in the input until I can talk to customer support at Lionel.

Yes, I miss the orange module, and I think it’s an importantl and necessary part of the Legacy process, however Dave Olson says, it’s not coming back. By adding the Legacy information into the engine, it does work the same.  To address the swinging bell, you need to hold the bell button for a few extra seconds and it will continue swinging and ringing.  This is a beautiful engine....Run it for fun.8104E9F8-479E-4CC9-9AF0-AE327902A6A0C6E7E58B-9FA8-4795-BD83-92FA0B0D42F9B85F2D72-F5F4-42A7-BA77-8622A0833AE8A5D68C3B-0F2E-4615-9B9C-0D1E7BF33E7F
