Those supports for the third-rail protection board look to be in need of a G.O. 
Without knowing how they were built, I'd say they were very susceptible to damage, or at least installed in a manner that couldn't have been very easy for the track-laying crew.

Having ridden the first car on many BMT, IND, IRT, LIRR and even the old Hudson Tubes trains many times in my youth, your front end "ride" was a sense memory experience of the first magnitude - BRAVO! :-)
Can't get enough of that amazing subway!!! Love the subways passing in the dark tunnel and all you can see is the lighted windows of the passing train. Just like real. Great stuff!!
