Atlas O 3-Rail Track

These smaller pieces can be fabricated  

4.5" Straight = 10 Pieces

1.25" Straights = 15 Pieces

1.75" Straights = 15 Pieces  

Three tie end add on pieces.  Part 6057.   Track can be cut with a 32 tooth per inch hacksaw and finished with a bench sander.   Click on the underlined phrase for a link to Atlas.

Just a thought. I don't know what tools you have, but I agree with Mike, those small pieces can be fabricated. However, if you do that, I suggest you look at your design and make larger pieces to reduce the number of joints.

For example, rather than make/buy the 8 pieces in the 2 circles on the left in the photo, make 2 larger pieces that are 6.5" and 6.0" respectively. In fact, you could combine the 2nd set with the two 10" pieces to make just a single 26" piece out of a 40" straight. The leftover 14" could then be used to make the 6.5" piece. Rather than buy the 2-10", 5-1.75" and 3-1.25" pieces, you'd just buy 1-40" piece. Altogether you'd eliminate 8 joints and still have a ~7" piece left to use elsewhere.

It'd be the same with the 4.5", 5.5" and 10" pieces in the middle circle (though they should really be two 10" pieces to begin with).

There are also several places where tracks don't join. I think some are close enough to fit, but if not, you're going to need to do some cutting to make the design work. If you have to cut one, you might as well cut the others.

PS - if you have light cars please be aware they will tend to de-rail on these Atlas crossovers. You would be better off buying the Ross version but the Atlas crossover is yours if you want it.

  You are right. I don't know why I did not think of this.  I do not have a bench sander though. I feel making a lot of custom pieces is the route I will go. You have a beautiful layout. I love the pictures. What size layout is it?

Thanks Dave! I am going to do what you mentioned. I am still working on the layout placement. I am toying around with letting some buildings go, so there is more room for scenery. It is just a hard line between all these cool buildings that have come out and making the layout look realistic with scenery. I really enjoy building the scenery too. I feel this hobby is tough because it is a blank canvas and you can do whatever you like to it.

  I will take the crossover and roadbed. The good part about where this crossover is going is that it will not be on a mainline, and will not see constant traffic over it. Thank you for the heads up about the cars derailing.

Eric,

If you have some buildings that would fit in with a particular scene, think in terms of mounting them on removable platforms so you can swap them out every so often. That way you get to use them all and have some variety.
