How in the world do you re-stuff this huge resistor into the pot metal case without it shorting out against the sides of the casting? The smoke unit in my No. 6 never worked well and stopped completely so I took it apart, The wick is OK so I tried re-packing the wick and re-installing the unit but no luck, I got a short circuit between the resistor and the case.  Anyone had any luck with this smoke unit? Gawd, give me the antique stuff to work with and I'm fine, but this modern stuff, sheesh!

Well, I finally got the resistor and wick back into the case without a short circuit by manipulating the position of the resistor so that it fits (barely) without contacting the metal. Bottom line: this smoke unit (MTH AA-2100002) is a tiny one-element unit that is really too small for this Standard gauge engine. The output will probably be not very much smoke if it still works at all. Oh well. The engine itself is very nicely built and functions well. Too bad MTH put such a small smoke unit in it.
