Hi, I have a Atlas New Haven RS-3 from the last run about 2 years old. This is the TMCC w/ cruise version. All has been great up until last night when it started to stop on switches, Atlas as well. I deducted via testing that the long hood pickup roller is not working. Before I call Atlas and send it back I would like to open up and see if I can figure out what is wrong. Has anyone worked on these? Is it easy to pop off the shell etc....? I have worked on Lionel but never a Atlas loco. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!!

You can check for a broken pickup wire without opening up the engine.  The rollers are connected to the same location inside the engine.  Normally, there should be a direct connection between the rollers and would show up as a "short" on an ohm meter.  If the connection is broken or "open" you'll get an infinite resistance.
