I have several sets of tin Lionel.  A nice string of the smaller 2600 cars and an OK set of the Blue Comet.  My question is in regards to the 800 series cars, the 2800 cars and the 8800 numbered cars. Are the 8800 cars reproductions, if so are they Lionel Classics?    I acquired them from a former Hobby Store owner and they are all in about the same very nice condition.

Also, did Lionel ever make O gauge tin State Cars (California, Connecticut, New York and Illinois).  They are nice too, but I think someone just did a beautiful custom paint job.  Thanks for your help, Chuck

Rob, I appreciate your response very much.  So, on my shelves, the 800's and 2800's are in the condition of the 8800's (new).  Nice to know that items so old were cared for so carefully.  My State Cars are not green, so I thought I should share them with you because they are probably custom painted.  I presume the car names and numbers were not altered, only the brown and tan.  You know your stuff, thank you for your kind reply.  Chuck
