LIONEL American Flyer LCCA VIDEO Presentation

That's a pretty nice AF Primer, Ed.  You've provided a nice, general overview without getting bogged down in the minutia.

 

Seeing your collector friend wouldn't let you open the Pony Express box, here's what the locomotives look like for the benefit of the viewers:

 

 

The only disagreement I would have regards the MoPac set.  The paint isn't 100% correct for the prototype.  MoPac used light gray, where Lionel used silver.  Still, it's nice looking:

LCCA members appreciated Ed all week long.  Ed was very active and accesible to our members  throughout the entire convention week.  Yes,  LCCA member's appreciate S-Gage trains and what Ed had to say.   Ed was also an active member of the LCCA committee for the LCCA/Lionel Fastrack Modular Railroad layout.   Thank you Ed for your contributions.

Thanks for posting this.  The more I look at S, the more I like it.   It's going to be hard to resist moving from O to S once MTH and Lionel start competing and more products are available.

Great video!  I have several Flyonel pieces and especially like the items that are close reproductions of originals such as the baggage smasher.  I do like the MTH aircraft and checkerboard towers better than what Lionel did because of the plastic shack.

 

But here's what really bothers me:  I have the Missouri Pacific set with all of the add-on cars and Railsounds B-unit EXCEPT I don't have the latest released full baggage car.  :-(

 

I missed the boat!  I tried like crazy calling all suppliers to no avail and even Lionel.  I keep checking ebay and all I find are plenty of other roadnames available.  Did Lionel make fewer of these?  This is one of my favorite sets and I wish it was complete.  I like the nice job Lionel did on this set. 

I had the same problem with the UP baggage. I finally got one 2 months ago on ebay for about $80. You just have to keep trying.

Ed, I'm not an S Gauge guy (except for a few pieces of PW Gilbert) but I am very impressed with the video. I may have to take a second look at S. By the way, the narrator was very professional and has a great "narration voice", in comparison to so many other hobby video narrators. Thanks for posting this.

Hi Ed, wonderful job on the video. I think it is a good thing that we should all be reminded from time to time what a great product Gilbert put out. Sometimes we tend to forget what a positive effect AF had on the direction O-gauge took in the fifties. 

Competition has a way of bringing out the best on both sides, just look at MTH and Lionel.

 

To add to what Al K said above; we don't have to attend the LCCA convention to appreciate Ed Boyle.

Ok...S Gauge with Legacy?  I'm in.   I am presently building my O layout and will plan on adding an S loop for that CSX SD70.  Is the Lionel S catalog online?  I need to determine the minimum diiameter track for that diesel.
