Lee Drennen is a bad influence on me (BIG-BIG smile), responsible for turning my engine house into a truck garage.  Lee's great Kenworth's and Mack's set me in motion to see what I could do.  With a stock of Corgi Mack's (bought cheap) and Don Mills parts, I had several in stages and with the holidays I had time to finish. Here are some results.  

Green B61 is the east coast independent with lots of chrome, aluminum sleeper, tandem axle, Alcoa wheels and detail parts added.

Blue B61 is the heavy hauler with tandem axle, headache rack, steptanks and winch on the fuel tank platform, tandem axle and detail parts added.

Gulf B61 in a stock Corgi frame and cab with details added and a 1995 Revell reissue tanker.

Mason Dixon B61 is a stock Corgi frame and cab, redecorated with a few details added.

Associated Transport LJ is a stock Corgi tractor redecorated and a DeHanes trailer I had to put Wheels under.

Akers straight truck is a salvage from a truck I cut the frame off in order to make the tandem axle tractors.  Wood block to mount a new axle and due to the body, you cant even see it.

I need to get back to putting down ballast, building models is more fun though.

White Mobilgas Tanker looks great.  What decals did you use?  I tried a set from the 1995 reissue and they were terrible.  Thick, yellowed, gummy and distorted when slid around.  

Removed them before they set.  Maybe a bad set, I have some others.  I have used 60+ year old Champ decals with no problems and good results.

I used the 1995 decal set that came with the kit.  However, my habit with old decals includes a spray coating of Dullcote one day prior to application. 

I also try to let them “float” (if my impatient nature allows it), then pick them up with the decal backing for transfer onto the truck.  

Walthers and Champ get the same treatment but those decals are much heavier (thicker), so less risky.

I’m sorry I had that effect on you. All your trucks look great ! I guess my favorite is the Gulf Mack with the updated decals and trailer from Revell top notch job. Tidy up your layout and maybe you can find some time to build more trucks lol

Excellent work on that Revell tanker mod.    

Where did you get the Associated Transport logos?  Decal or online? 

I was inspired to tackle a project modifying a K-Line flatbed into something more prototypical and less garish.  So here are the results:

Amazing what some paint and TLC can do to an otherwise unremarkable blisterpack truck.  Cars and Trucks (my truck population FAR outnumbers my cars) that I once turned my nose at, I find myself now looking for.

Decoration sources are Model Truckin and Graphics on Demand.  I think Microscale may offer some truck decals as well.  I use Don Mills wheels almost exclusively as I like the real rubber tires on the wheels and he also offers lots of detail parts to replace broken items or enhance, all reasonably priced.

I thought you and Gray would like to see some of my “work in progress “ some of these have been in this stage for over 10 yrs I guess I better get these done 

First up is a Champ of the Road KW like your BTW yours looks great. I filed out where the lights go and added a grill from the honest John KW

Next is one that is special to me. It’s also a Champs of the Road KW my dad bought it for me for my birthday around 1976-77 it was a TG&Y department store truck. I’ve added Don Mills wheels and it will sit on a Honest John frame 

Next is a Peterbilt 351 Narrow nose resin cab that was in a collection of resin cabs that I purchased from one of my brothers friends back in 2005 I may make a log truck with Don Mills trailer it also will have Don Mills components I added the lubefiner and Air Cleaner from the 359 Champ of the Road Pete. I still have to make a grill and some clean up before paint. Thanks for posting you pics guys I really enjoy them

WOW  Lee your work never ceases to amaze me, just got to get them finished.

You've been at it for years, I've bought die cast for years, but only started to modify in the last 6 months or so.  Problem is finding cores to work with, without spending a fortune - that's why the B61 Macks have come on so strong.

As I've said before, I need to get out of the garage and back on the railroad.  I already have more trucks than I can ever use on the railroad which is how the truck models got started.  I keep coming up with ideas I want to implement.  Still thinking about a tri axle Mack.

I started building trucks first then I got into the O gauge trains about 3yrs ago when I started having trouble  building  HO scale trucks and trains due to my hands and eyes I have arthritis really bad in my hands and it’s hard for me to build that little stuff anymore so that’s when I switched to O gauge best move I ever made now I can build Trains and Trucks and I plan on customizing a few cars along the way.  I found a picture of the TG&Y Truck on the web when it was new. It was in sad shape I played with it a lot can’t belive i kept it. I stripped the paint off and painted it Krylon Bonnet Blue

I have a number of vehicle model photos l hope to post next week.  I glommed a few Matchbox 1937 International trucks....this series of trucks was everywhere when l was a kid...l have a coal truck done and am working on a milk truck as picked up the cans from my grandfather's farm.  It will have a tailgate on the rear with John Willie riding on it (he was not allowed in the cab as unwashed except when set upon by locals and tossed into Floyd's Fork Creek).  His property was covered with odd shaped little buildings and he was rumored to be a moonshiner. Oddly, today, a church stands there.l

Understand about seeing things, I use a jewelers visor all the time when working.  There are a lot of people that model 1/87 cars and trains, I don't see (haha) how they do it.  Read about one guy that made an operating Jiff Lock dolly in HO with lines and everything, that's small stuff

Gray I use to do custom trucks years ago with all the details here’s a pic of my Crackerbox (HO) and a U Autocar  I built some years ago both were hand painted ithey still on my HO layout

I’m not sure.  I bought this set of HO Microscale Bekins decals at a train show some time ago, but I recall they might still be around.  I planned to use them on an old Champ of the Road trailer van (KMart early 80’s).  Having landed the derelict, I got on the project right away.

Someone on eBay had a full O scale set, but it wasn’t for me at $25.  Modeling is full of compromises.... Trailer van@ $1.50, tractor@ $1.00, decals@ $1.00.

It sort of balances off the cost of Lionel and Atlas engines😉

My latest kitbash:  130 ft long 13 axle heavy hauler.  It's even too long for my photo stage road.

Problem is the trailers only come with a two axle jeep, two axle stinger and the deck is too short. Two of the new Diecast Masters lowboy with jeep and stinger required to cut up. I substituted a Sword triaxle Kenworth for the tandem axle International which I used elsewhere. 

One trailer sacrificed a 10 ft section  to add to the middle, just like the real ones.  The single axle stingers that also come with the models were also sacrificed - one for the suspension and wheels to make the three axle jeep, the other frame cut up to make the three axle stinger.  I did manage to salvage the second now much shorter trailer to handle a Cat crawler loader.

The last two pictures are the inspiration. From when the museum I belong to moved two 80 ton engines 2 years ago.  We had to take the trucks out and get the body's down to a manageable 112,000 lbs.

Both the real move and the model with load came in at 15-6 high. 

As a trivia question, whats wrong with the first picture, clue it's not the truck.
