I noticed also that the availability date was removed but it does not say in stock.  Called them this morning and they don't know why it was removed.  Availability should still be Sep 10, 2018.  They are not in stock yet.

Ok, thank you for the info. I thought that might be the case when no one else seemed to have them.

My “what if” SP 601 is supposed to arrive on Tuesday.  I’m interested to see if the UP units have the Hi-Ad trucks and have the number boards above the windshield.

They're shipping now? I have the CSX  Diversity in Motion ones ordered. The cab# 5000 actually wrecked nearby where live in Chester Pa back in 10/16.

UPS arrived early.  I took some comparison shots of my UP 7050 from a few years ago.  Main differences are the ditch lights are under the front porch, no steps up the side of the SP unit and no Odyssey on/off switch.  All in all I think it sounds the same as the UP and I’m pleased to have this “what if” version.  I think this most accurately represents a CSX unit rather than a UP or even what the SP unit looked like, with the exception of the location of the ditch lights.  Cheers!

Just out of curiosity. To my understanding when they were delivered the SP/UP merger had either taken place or was in the works, so since SP really did order them does that qualify them as "what if" engines? Good comparison shots, and thank you for the info. Can't wait to get mine.

Bill

I just call it a “what if” because the 3 on order by the SP were not completed until just after the merger (like right after) and their paint scheme was changed to UP prior to delivery.  I believe I read somewhere that at least 1 unit had been painted in SP gray and was in the masking process for the scarlet nose and end.  So, “what if” the merger happened 2 months later?  We probably would’ve seen them as patched UP units for a few years.  I still see a few AC4400’s in the scarlet and gray.

The front pilot is black, which was replaced by the original owner.  I need to replace or repaint it, maybe one of these days.

I too would like to see what the new UP units look like.  The road numbers they chose should have the number boards above the windshield.  They shouldn’t have the split stacks either, but I think this is Lionel’s only version of an AC6000, which is more accurate for a CSX unit.

I figured that’s where the number boards would be.  The 2 road numbers released by Lionel actually have the split stacks and this AC inverter panel layout (the last release was wrong for those road numbers).  The problem is by the time UP received this configuration, their specs for the number boards changed to being located above the windshield.  Honestly, CSX and UP have different specs for their units.  At least you get the proper trucks.

Here's the CSX Diversity in Motion AC6000. I bought both cab#s. Detailing is great, sound is fantastic. Not sure how I feel about the gray, seems a little lite.

Lionel and their colors!!  It looks similar to the grey on the most recent run csx sd40-2's.  I think its a little light.  If you hit it with layer of dullcoat it would be a nice fresh out of the paint shop look.   I went the full weathered route and it turned into one of my favorite diesels.  I hated it before hand.  This engine would be an excellent weathering candidate if your into that.

Would that darken it at all?

Dullcoat alone does exactly how it sounds.   It will neutralize the new look.   Now I have heard of guys putting additive in the dullcoat to give it a darker tint.   I don’t have much experience here so I can’t  speak much on it.  I’ve only ever used it as it comes.
