you need all the harnesses that come with the ps2 3 volt kit which they don't sell anymore as far as I know and the harness comes with tac board and tac mounting hardware 2.4 volt battery and battery harness and  4 ohm speaker, maybe an asc tech might have one. good luck. why don't you just install a ps3 kit they come complete with everything you'll need?

I'm not sure if you can use the ps2 slave board with a ps3 kit maybe a asc tech will chime in here!

I may have bitten off too much to chew. Looking at many Slave units and their wiring more specifically the pigtail tether that connects to the Slave board to the master board. It would seem that the tethers may be board/ loco specific.  Tell ya why. The tether contains 10 wires 6 of which are 28 gauge wire and 4 of the 10 wires are 22 gauge These 22 gauge wires are for  control of the motors in the slave loco. They include the yellow and white that come from the motor harness in the master loco and a Red and Black which are slave board ground and power. Looking at four DIFFERENT Slave board Tethers these four wires occupy different pin positions on all four tethers. Photos of two of these tethers below. Can someone please tell me that these tethers are not board/loco specific. Note that on the top photo yellow is in pin 9 and white is pin 10.  Where in the bottom photo yellow is in pin 3 and white is in pin 4. The little tabs that hold the pins in place can be lifted and the pins/wires can be removed and repositioned in the plug if I knew which order the board needed.  Also note I am not completely sure which end of the plug MTH chooses to call pin 1 you can see from the plug which end the plug manufacturer calls pin one but I am not sure that is a guarantee that MTH choose to follow that labeling. Another question I have is, In the background of photo 2 you can see logic gates would this give MTH the ability to scramble the pin order in the board to make each Slave board and tether LOCO SPECIFIC ?    I also did a pin to pin trace between the two connectors and the 4th photo shows pins that are connected .      j   pulling my pigtails out !

Early 5V slave did have different wire gauge pin out location, that was corrected later to ensure heavy gauge wires used appropriately, but the actual wiring diagram of a Diesel slave is the same.  Additionally, those harness are pass through harness so it does not matter.  Your hand written diagram doesn't make sense and two wires should not go to the same connection (brown and purple).  Not sure where you got that from.  ABA Slave are a much more complicated adventures, and MTH wiring diagrams are proprietary and not for public display or publication. G

Just take your ohmmeter and ring out the tether.  For a diesel, make sure you get the matching master unit tether.

John, This does not make sense, especially under a Slave discussion.  Generic tether are pass through, the PINOUT is not different, just the wire color and gauge.  Yes Steam engines have different pinouts depending on model, lots of variation to engines 5V, 3V, MUX, board in tender, board in engine etc...

As far as Diesel ABA Slaves, the connecting harness in still pass through.  Pin 2 is Pin 2.  The color and gauge did change from 5V to 3V as I mention above.

The later 3V is more traditional in wire color selection.  Wht and Yellow motor leads, purple PV, Blue PCB ground, etc...  G

I have a PS2-3V board a PS2 slave board and a Tether ,of which, I know not of it's origin. Might have come out of a John Deer.  The hand drawn diagram is a pin to pin reading without a harness or tether where I got a 0 ohm reading between two pins. Purple and brown on the tether connector both read "O" ohms to pin 1 on the lights/coupler connector. What I was hoping to do by a process of elimination was to find the four pins M+  M-  Board ground and Power.  Narrowing it down to four wires.  If you have a proper PS2 + Slave conversion kit with all the factory harness and matching Slave board I can easily see that the tether is just a pass through. I don't have a factory kit I have a tether from who knows what and a ten pin male plug from a "Loco Sound" steam loco which I will splice into the master harness.  Which by chance matches the colors of the tether, color for color, pin to pin. Since there are at least two pin out versions of the Slave board I must at a minimum find the pins that make up Slave board power and ground and  M+ and M- Seems to me till the tether reaches the board connector it is a pass through. However if the pins for power and motor are changed at either board or tether that's where the pass through ends. Would be my luck when the Slave fried it would take the master board with it. I'm not all that concerned with getting the lighting right I just need to find M+ M-  Board Ground and Power. After that I can power things up and sort out the lighting and R coupler pins.  So if anyone has an easy way to find without a doubt those four pins on the board I'm very open to suggestions.    Thanks,   j

 

Pin out stay the same for slave board.  It has not changed whether a PS-2 5V or 3V engine.  Pin 1 PCB Ground, 2 is PV, 3 M+, 4 M-.  That last picture of a harness, has appropriate wire colors and looks like a 3V engine harness.  Not sure how you are doing your testing, but I would trash that wiring diagram you made.

Do you have a ABA Unit you can look at? G

George, Thanks, that last harness photo is one that the guy I bought the board from is going to send me. I mentioned to him that Pin 1 and  2 are both conducing  (0.2 ohms ) between both of them and pin 1 on the Lights / coupler harness. I think this board may be toast.  He did agree to send me another if this one is indeed dead.     A friend has an ABA and agreed to let me check out it's wiring scheme.     j
