I'm looking at an MTH 30-1433-1 Coors Silver Bullet Train Set (engine and 3 operating reefers) with PS2.0. Don't know grade or it's operational status so what would be a reasonable offer? Trainz offered this at one time for $456 which is more than I'd want to spend.

I bought mine from Jim's trains in 2008 probably for $ 450.00 new. Also bought 2 extra cars and the end car for a 6 car train.
I would pay under $400.00 for c8 , $450.00 mib. Plenty min still around.
Mine came from Jim's too.......not run often....but not for sale.....mint $450 is OK..
Picked mine up on a Trainz auction for $365. Bought the Tail Car a while later on another Trainz auction for $65... what a steal. Unfortunately it's not for sell either.
Thanks guys. We'll see how it goes!
Boy, the tail car for $65 was a steal, I paid a lot more for mine! Make sure the locomotive is fully operational, the PS/2 FLASH board it uses is not currently available. It's a really cool set when it's all working, I have an extra car and the tail car. It's quite impressive when it pulls up and all the doors open.
I don't understand why MTH doesn't re-run this. Unless they lost the license, I think this would be an even hotter seller today than what it was originally released.
I heard that the license for Coors products was indeed no longer in force.

Yeah, I picked it up back when Trainz was running auctions on their own website (before DASH).
I have checked recently and it is working properly but I think it will get a fresh battery just to be on the safe side. If that PS2 board goes, what options does one have? Upgrade to PS3?
To be honest, last time I checked, there wasn't an option. I'm going to take really good care of mine to make sure I don't lose the board. Before it runs again, it gets a TVS across the pickups and a new supercap battery substitute.
It's football season so even though my layout is just getting started I had to bring it out.
Forgot what I had, engine 4 cars, tail car, aquarium car and tank car full of beer.

They couldn't give them away at York a few years ago - sets were being dumped for $300 or $350.
Don't understand why someone would pay money to have what amounts to a non-stop commercial on their layout.
Because it's a really fun train. Why do people buy any branded train item? With that thinking, I should toss all my Amtrak, Union Pacific, and NS train items as they're all big businesses as well.

That would solve your shelving problem!

I agree with you to a degree. I do not wear clothes with brand names on them, etc and never understood why people pay money to advertise for a company for free.
But this train is a showstopper, especially with the opening doors. And people have modded this train by getting read of the Coors labels and made it an alien/Area 51 theme that looks really great.

Anyone have photos of the modified Doors trains? I'd like to see an Alien train.

I'm not sure why people feel the need to come and wizz in my corn flakes. Everyone's taste is different, and the Coors Silver Bullet Train is no different.
Someone should explain to me why all the commercial signs advertising everything under the sun on most layouts are good, but this train is bad! I have freight cars, tank cars, container cars, etc. all have major company brands on them.
Frankly, I just don't get the animosity to this specific item! Please, by all means, make me understand why this particular item is a problem? It's a fantasy piece for Heaven's sake, and IMO a pretty entertaining one!
Well said John! I think its a great looking train and would love to have one some day! There are way to many other things in life to worry about! If you don't like it, do what I do and don't buy it! That's what America is all about your choice! As for me I love it!
It does appear to be a fun item. I never went for one but it had nothing to do with realism or branding and advertising. So I guess all the names on all the structures and billboards must be imaginary, oh wait that would be fantasy, and all the billboard reefers we have must stay in the box.
I have one with 6 cars plus the rail car and I love it. It’s such a fun train to run and so very whimsical. Let’s face it, this train isn’t for the “serious model railroader” it’s for the ones that like to have fun

Next thing you know your weiner-mobile will come under attack.
Reminds me of negative comments that sometimes fly back and forth between 2 railers and 3 railers and scale vs traditional. It's all the same hobby. If one particular niche isn't your cup of tea no need to put it down - just don't post anything.

That FUN train aside, just maybe the "animosity" is directed at one of the worst American beers ever fostered on an unsuspecting public! If you drink Coor's Light, you might just as well drink water! LOL!
I drink Coors Light, it’s not the greatest and it’s not the worst. What does your beer snobbiness have to with trains? I also have a Fox Deluxe reefer, that’s far worse than Coors yet I harbor no animosity towards owners of that reefer
HA HA I know , that's exactly what I keep telling my wife "Honey it's just water"

No, anything but the Weiner!
John, consider yourself lucky to have so many interested in your wiener——-mobile
Matt, the problem is, those that I want to be interested... aren't.
The problem with this set is the overall width of the engine. The cylinders stick out so much further than any other. Make your first run around the layout very slowly to ensure no mishaps.
Yep, this, the VL-BB, and the 21" passenger cars will be the test pieces for clearance of obstacles!
It doesn’t fit on my Glenn Snyder shelves. Might have to get one STD Gauge run just for that train
Good point Matt, the next set of shelves may include a couple of STD gauge ones for a couple of wide things. At least one for the Coors Silver Bullet anyway.

And that will make the corn flakes taste different, too.
My sense of humor is warped, I know, but I can never resist.
IT IS A NON-STOP COMMERCIAL BUT IT'S COOL!!
Good thread and stimulating discussion. We each have fun in our own way and we all need a good laugh or some whimsy now and then. As for a non-stop commercial it would NOT make me buy Coors Light... it's one of the best light beers around but the genius at Coors is really their marketing.
Making this into an alien/Area 51 train sounds intriguing... who's got pictures or video??? With Halloween and spooky stuff around the corner it's a perfect opportunity.

I don’t know about a non-stop commercial, it’s definitely a theme train, but it’s the silver bullet

Did you try the MTH product locator, there is one listed.
I didn't modify mine, and this run is before I got the tail car, but it does have two extra reefers:
And to inject some levity on the subject, here's The Onion's take:
(remember this is satire, ok?)

As per The Onion: Any train with "raw frosty power" moving at 27,000 mph unbounded by rails is a disaster waiting to happen.
But enough fun aside... back to trains. This spurred me to put together my alien consist for our annual Halloween party. That's another thread.
