You folks should be aware that the Union Pacific RR referred to them as "Wind Wings", and generally only the FEF-2/FEF-3 4-8-4s, plus the oil burning Challengers, carried them. The 3985 did not have "Wind Wings" when she was in regular service as a coal burner, nor after she was converted to oil burning. As mentioned above, 3985 was re-numbered (3967?) for a special excursion, and the "Wind Wings" were installed. After that one-time operation, the "Wind Wings" were quickly removed, as they seriously affected forward visibility for the Engineer and Fireman, not to mention the Pilot Crew members.
