Hello again, TinMan here, and yes we are really alive and well.  This year we are featuring a new switch controller especially for O27 switches that have a no D Rail feature. To stop the buzzing we now include the CD system built right into our controllers. I would like to recognize the very smart gentleman who first came up with the idea, and name our controller after him, as long as there are no objections. Problem is I can't remember his name? Can somebody help?

2nd Item we also have a new controller for the old style 5 rail remote control tracks. Our new controller has toggle switches to turn the unload feature on and off (not uncouple) the uncouple circuit remains to be a momentary switches. I don't like the idea of activating the uncoupler coil when only the odd rail circuit is needed. We would like to modify the tracks to avoid that issue. The problem I do not know if there are toys that need both the unload and uncouple feature to work at the same time.  Can someone also help me with that?

Rob,

You never cease to amaze me with the info that you constantly supply to us.  How in heaven's name you came up with something that you read 15 years ago - wow!

By the way, I worked with Bob on an article that I submitted to OGR on how to re-wire the Lionel O27 switches to use external power and stop the buzzing too.  I asked him to co-author it with me and he was too humble to do that, so I submitted it and right up front gave full credit to him, saying that my article is completely from HIS knowledge.

OGR never published it but when I mentioned it here on the forum many years ago I've gotten close to 100 requests for the article, which I email to the requestors.

I am intrigued by this. I presently have 4 pairs of 027 switches controlled by an under the layout CD system I wired in with help from the Bob Nelson posts and GunrunnerJohn. This system seems to have many advantages over mine.  Sending an email to Tinman now with questions about it's compatibility with my system.

Thanks guys, the following is being adapted to all of our O27 controllers and descriptions.

The story: Most all O27 switches made were not designed to work with accessory power, which means that if you slow a train down to go thru a switch, the switch may not operate correctly or at all. That plus, most O27 switches did not have a "NO D Rail" feature built in   Soo some really smart guys said, really, well we'll just have to see about that!. The inventor genes were flowing and the next thing you know, solutions and therefore modifications were made to the switches, to add not only accessory power hook ups, but also by adding extra insulated tracks, solved the no d rail issue.. HOWEVER, what was discovered that if one parked a car or an engine on the no do rail function, the solenoids in the switch were activated constantly, to the point where they actually got red hot, and eventually burned themselves out!....The solution! A really smart guy "Rob Nelson" came up with an idea of adding a cd circuit to the accessory power that operated the switches. How it worked was the switches were actually operated by a capacitor discharging.  If a car was parked on the No D Rail track the capacitor would not recharge, and therefore would not damage the switch. Once the car was removed, the capacitor would recharge in a matter of seconds, and was ready once again to operate the switch again. Not bad eh?  We were so impressed by all all this creativity, we now include accessory power and NO D Rail capability with all the O27 switches we offer. In addition we now include the CD system in all of our "red button" controllers, at no extra charge. We just cannot take credit for the invention so we have named these controllers the "Bob Nelson Controllers"   Just our way of recognizing a really smart guy, who willingly shared his invention to anyone who was interested. If you are still around Bob, our sincere thanks!
