Metra honors the Milwaukee Road's history with a commuter engine newly decorated in the classic orange, maroon and black Milwaukee Road paint scheme. This is so cool to me,since it is my favorite rail line. I never thought I would see a new Milwaukee Road engine. Somebody at the top of Metra is a big fan of Chicago's rich rail history. Metra's allowing steam fan trips and now heritage commuter engines is fantastic.

The Milwaukee Road engine is very cool looking.  I live in Winnetka and have not seen it, but I think that line I am on was more a CNW line than a Milwaukee Road line.  Growing up in Northbrook, I would see the Milwaukee Road engines all the time at the Shermer Road crossing as well as the Willow Road overpass (Willow and Shermer).

I have the MTH Metra engine, and would add the Milwaukee Road one.

You wouldn’t have seen it yet.

Here’s the link to Metra’s Facebook announcement on Jan. 4 regarding this MP36 paint scheme:

I’m not sure why people keep posting this photo (this is the third post I have seen on the forum) without putting it into context.

Nice that they have jumped on the Heritage bandwagon. Will make waiting at crossing more interesting now though I would have preferred the larger horizontal two tone paint scheme rather than this thin inclined version.

Could do an imitation fluting wrap, that would be nice. Along with a Warbonnet now that it's BNSF

Here is another Metra heritage engine. This one is a Rock Island engine. It has the same upward sloping stripe on the side as the Milwaukee Road engine. It was planned to be at the Chicago station for the 2018 Joliet Rocket steam excursion, but it broke down. Hopefully it will be there for the 2019 trip.

This is the Burlington Northern I grew up with. I think they were the last of the E units in regular service, which ended in the mid 1980s. It would be incredible if I saw a new Metra engine painted in this scheme. I still ride this commuter line into Chicago. I am pretty sure Metra has gone back to putting the Burlington art deco logo on their new commuter cars on the old Burlington commuter route.

What 2019 trip?

I meant if there is a 2019 Joliet Rocket steam excursion.
