Hello! (again)

To end the 2018 steam season for me, the day after my adventures at the Strasburg Rail Road, I purchased two cab rides aboard Reading & Northern, former Gulf Mobile & Ohio and Louisiana Eastern, pacific #425. This Christmas season #425 was pulling Christmas specials from the Reading & Northern's Outer Station in Reading, PA to their headquarters in Port Clinton, PA. All of the trackage #425 ran on for these trips was the former Reading Company's mainline. This was an early birthday present and it certainly did not disappoint. Here are a few pictures and a video (a little bumpy in some parts, but I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy it! It was a great ride).

"A Team of Two": Enginemen Ryan Bausher and Shane Frederickson are working hard as a team to keep Reading & Northern #425 rolling through the Dutch countryside of Berks county, Pennsylvania.

Engineman Shane Frederickson climbs down from #425 as current and former R&N employees and their friends catch up prior to the 3:30 pm departure.

Two generations of motive power. I prefer the one on the right.

"Resume Speed": Engineman Shane Frederickson looks over his locomotive outside of the Outer Station in Reading, PA in preparation for one more departure to Port Clinton. Resuming speed for this locomotive will be no hard task.

#425's running gear and drivers shine in the beautiful golden December sunset we had while simmering away next to the Outer Station in Reading, PA.

"Classic": Enginemen Ryan Bausher and Shane Frederickson tend to a few odds and ends on their locomotive about 1 hour prior to a late afternoon departure from the Outer Station in Reading, Pennsylvania.

And here's a video to enjoy:

Frank, Dave, and Gregg thank you for the compliments!

John, #425 has a fairly limited schedule, but be sure to check in on the Reading & Northern's passenger schedule to see when she will be pulling trains in 2019. Cab rides are for sale for any trip to my knowledge, but the price varies. For these trips and others in the Lehigh Gorge it is 100 dollars to ride in the cab. For the fall trips, its $250 one way plus a ticket for coach to ride back. I don't know if they drop the extra ticket price if you buy both cab rides for the morning and afternoon runs so be sure to give them a call at the RBMN passenger department and they will get you squared away.  #425's schedule usually comes out every spring so be on the lookout in the coming months.

Outstanding photos and video.  Thanks for sharing.  In fact the frontal shot with attention getting paid to the bell is now the lock screen wall paper on my phone - perfect fit.

Your photos have such depth they almost look like paintings.  Is there something special you do to give them that quality and appearance. Great work thanks.

Thank you! It's funny you say they have the look of a painting because I often try hard to emulate the effect a painting gives where something looks so surreal that its almost impossible to believe it actually happened. All of my photos are shot in RAW and then edited through various programs I use to make them look smoother, cleaner, and more crisp. Shooting RAW helps me to get the maximum flexibility out of the photo. It's essentially like having limitless options in the darkroom of the film days.
