Who is the FW&W?  Is that a remnant of the Burlington affiliate, Denver and Fort Worth, and where does it run?

FW&WR is a Class 3 shortline, started in 1988, and presently has about 276 miles of trackage. While the tracks have changed hands a number of times over the years, generally speaking most of it was former Santa Fe trackage. They also lease some trackage and a yard from the Union Pacific.

Based on the last couple catalogs, and their desire to find new paint schemes, I’d say MTH would be the first, if any, to produce that loco paint. But, if I were to guess, I would think they would use their SD40-2 shell.

I’m not the best with loco differences, so I probably couldn’t tell a -2 from a -3, but I don’t see any manufacturer spending money on a brand new mold at the moment. We will see.

The units appear to be upgraded sd40's, not sd40-2's.  So Lionel and Atlas both have that tooling.  I'm not anywhere near as familiar with MTH to know if they also have tooling for an sd40.

I wish the Fort Worth & Western lettering on the blue band on the hood side was in yellow instead of red.  The contrast is poor with the red on blue, and every time I see it I think it looks like a strikethrough line over the  FWWR .  Otherwise, I like the colors.  A custom paint job, at least on an Atlas sd40 wouldn't be that difficult.  All the color separations are either separate parts or nice straight edges for masking.

Yes, 2015 clearly began life as an sd40-2.  I was looking at the first two photos regarding the sd40 origins.  From looking at the online roster, 2015 and 2018 are both original sd40-2's.  All the other 3 axle locos listed appear to be sd40's or sd45's upgraded to meet dash 2 specifications.  Interestingly, the 2029 and 2032 don't even appear on the roster at this time.
