It's Switcher Saturday Time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT, you should go take a look, there was some great stuff posted!
https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/...day-2019-February-09

On my side, today I woke up a bit late today so I'm going to have to circle back in a bit with a second post with some pictures or video.

Enjoy your weekend and when you get a chance - please post some switcher stuff here!

You know the rules:

1. if it's related to switchers (model switchers, prototypes, critters, switching yards, switching layouts) - we want to see it! Videos, Pics, Stories (true or fictional), poems, whatever!

2. if you miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

3. keep it friendly - we want this to be fun. (we haven't had any problems with grumpy trolls, I'd like to keep it that way)

All the best...Rich Murnane

My wife and I are off to Boston for the day - so we're up early and about to leave. Have a good SWSAT.

My MTH Premier Providence & Worcester GP40 #3001 arrived this week. I guess it’s technically a road-switcher, but it’s very large, and probably not used for switching – so I wouldn’t insist it’s really a switcher. However, I think it’s a really nice model. Perfect paint and assembly. Test run satisfactory in conventional – the only way I operate. Startup, prime-mover, horn and bell sounds load and clear. The Providence & Worcester Railroad was chartered in 1844. I used to see maroon and red P&W diesels in New Haven until the November 1, 2016 sale of the P&W to Genesee & Wyoming – but none recently.

Yay! SWSat is on!

Melgar I used to watch those PW GP40s switch paper cars to the Providence Journal newspaper plant on Harris Ave when I was walking to collage from my apartment so I think of them as switchers even while they were making me late to class. Congratulations on your article in the Magazine! Love that Narragansett Reefer you snuck onto the cover.

This week I opened a nice package from Germany. It definitely fits the switcher category and is a Steam Dummy. These were popular in Urban areas from the 1870’s through the turn of the century. In Europe they were usually called Trams. These were small steam engines with full passenger or trolley  bodies wrapped around the boilers. They usually also had skirting covering the wheels and drive mechanisim with the idea that this would not scare horses.

The New York Elevated RR used these a lot and many went on to work as contractor engines, mining and logging. The New York Central had a few Dummy Bodied Shays that they used on 9th Ave to work from 33st to John St Terminal before the High Line went in.

Mine I think is a German prototype but I have not been able to find an exact match. I gave it a bit of a shake down run at the 2 rail Oscale NYSME layout. Here it is sharing yard duties with a Yoder 44 tonner.

I have always really liked the looks of these little guys.I am happy I was finally able to find one . Although it is geared low and slow it is probably one of my fastest engines. It made it from Germany to my home in 2.5 days.

Have a great Weekend I can’t wait to see what you guys post.

Nice little tram Silverlake, looks really well made and it is an original model for you in USA.

Here is a similar one with a more tinplate look, also made in Germany by a small manufacturer, unfortunately it is not mine....

Have a great weekend,   Daniel

Daniel. That looks really nice. Is it made by ETS in Czechoslovakia? I have a few of their nice products. They are a funny hybrid of well detailed tinplate.

This little tram is not made by ETS. It is made in very small serie by a talented man in Germany who also replicate gauge one three rail tracks and some other very nice models. He doesn't makes any publicity to sell his models and you have to know who he could be... I am still searching... Daniel

 Very Cool. Thanks Daniel.

Not only did I wake up late, I had to take my older daughter to a school thing, so I stopped by the club and ran a train for a bit (of course a switcher).

B&O #317 doing a short line freight haul on the "top inside track" at the RMR Clubhouse...

Great stuff so far guys, I hope everyone has a great weekend...Rich

LionChief Plus • New • Milwaukee Road NW2

In this Train Room Gary video. We will be unboxing and running a LionChief Plus diesel locomotive NW2.  This is a yard locomotive under this railroad flag: “Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific”. All aboard for a model railroad adventure with Train Room Gary.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?...6kR7yB1Sk&t=164s

I did have some minor issues with this locomotive and I had to send it back. This video will cover those issues. Lionel did send me a return authorization number and a Fed-X return mailing label.

Happy Switcher Saturday folks!

Coming late to the party right from my local ER. Nothing like spending 6-7 hours in the Emergency Room. All turned out OK.

This week's contribution is my latest #228 riding high on its T-Rail track. The seller threw in 2 pieces of T-Rail and I like them, but that will probably be the only T-Rail sections I have...although I may have once said that same thing about prewar switchers, then #228 prewar switchers, etc.

Hey Tom - Glad you are OK....

Thanks Rich,

Whenever I visit a doctor or ER, I like to tell me wife I was diagnosed with an acute condition of "Nagadosis." I was expecting Dave to say I was hospitalized with SAD, "Switcher Addiction Disorder," or something like that.

Great stuff this week everyone!

Next week is our 4yr anniversary, so.... pictures of some 0-4-0's maybe?  Or maybe some pictures with four switchers?  Or maybe just a favorite picture of yours from the last four years.  Or maybe each one of us does four posts or posts four pictures?   I don't know....

Anyway, that's right - next week will be our 208th SWSAT post!  So get ready everyone!

Happy SWSUNDAY!

Four Years! WOW!! Been here for three of them, my how time flies. Thanks Rich!

Tom- glad to hear all is well. Feel better!

Another great bunch of switcher posts this week.

So yesterday disappeared rather quickly. I thought I was going to get back to post some pix later in the day but.....

Well, here we go- The RSJ&B has a new beauty to add to the switcher fleet. I just picked up a K-line MP-15 in Western Maryland livery with a caboose. Brand new never out of the box either. Not the prototypical paint job but the fireball herald is firmly in place. The two were a set which included the horn/bell controller too. I have some WM freight cars on the way to give this engine something to do.

HMMM.......4 MP-15's????

Have a great Sunday and President's day (if your are off).

Bob
