This is my new MTH T1. This is the early model with Proto Sound or Proto Sound 1 and it is amazing. Has PFA announcements, green marker lights, red backup lights, a cab light, and a really good smoke unit. The only thing is that the smoke only come out of one stack. I opened it up to see if it has a cone to direct the smoke out of both and it does, but still only comes out of one. Any ideas on how to make it come out of both.

The only way to "try" to equalize it is to reshape the cone, this is a pretty common issue with a number of models, both MTH and Lionel.
I have the PS2 version. I never had to open it up so I don't know. But it seems like it shoots the smoke right in between the two stacks so that it comes out both. Can you manipulate the smoke output pipe to target it a little further back?

I had an idea of splitting the hole with a piece of brass plate to make it come out evenly.

That sounds like a good idea, like a little piece of brass as a deflector to push some of the smoke up the back stack. Even when it's working correctly, it looks a little weird because the smoke shoots forward out the front stack. I still really like the model though of course.
Also make sure the smoke unit engages the shell smoke outlet correctly also. G
