It would be an excellent time to attract attention, particularly if they have displays of #844, #4014, and the Golden spike locos (of course, that would require having planned to have such trains ready on hand, and I don't know that any of the manufacturers in any of the scales were thinking in that direction).

Yes I agree, but also think of the possibility of being able to see most of the new products in the 2019 catalog.

Do you think that Lionel should be at Ogden for the big event on May 10th or even there be any of the big train manufactures there and have it set up like when they are at York?

In a word,,,,,,,no!

Why?

Because, most all the motel/hotel rooms have been sold out (some at exorbitant prices) for more than a year. In addition to the "Big Event", other rail oriented organizations are having their annual conventions there in Ogden at the same time, i.e. the NRHS and UP Historical Society.

Plus, where would such "Toy Train Manufacturers" set up to show their products? Certainly not with the UP displays.

Lastly, in my opinion, the vast majority of the people coming from all over the world for this "Big Event" are NOT model railroaders nor toy train collectors.

I still agree with all of this. Personally myself the reason why me and my family are going because it is as we all say a big event because this is a once in a life time event that only happens ever 50 to 100 years. Would I like to see some train booths? Yes, because once the main stuff is over that I would like to do it would be nice to then look around at what available things there are. Also, yes I do understand that the 4014 and the transcon is the main event. Mainly why we are going is to see the 4014 because over the years growing up I always wanted to see the worlds biggest steam locomotive. Specifically speaking the 4014. Over all, why I mad this post was to yes get peoples opinion, but to also see if anyone would feel the same way. For my final thought, I would think it would be neat for the manufactures to be there because once everything is primarily over then they can then look around and some more fun. Which that is why the hobby is out there and why this event is even happening because we the people wanted to show the world what our ancestors did over a 150 years ago and to show it to the newer generation that is here with us. Finally, I hope that who all see this will be able to go and see a grate day in history. A day in which we see two giants of the rails come together which symbolizes the fact that it is possible to work together to create a spectacular spectacle.

P.S. I do care and want to see the 4014 most of all not just to go and buy trinkets.

But they ARE interested in trains, which could make for an excellent opportunity to expose them to model/toy trains and thereby perhaps make some of them into model railroaders or toy train collectors.

Many people don't know that the hobby exists.  This would be an opportunity to expose them to the hobby.  This is one reason that the NMRA is building a professional model railroad display at the California State RR Museum in Sacramento.   NH Joe

The NMRA display will be a permanent exhibit in a venue open year round that folks can take in at their leisure, not a one shot event where most folks will be distracted by two oversized teakettles.

Yes I agree. My local club that I am in has been trying to that for a long time and when it works it works. Also, one of the major things to do to try to get people interested is by going out to the people.

What exactly is a "professional model railroad display", and what gauge is it?

A "professional model railroad display" is generally a display where specialists are paid to build it, as opposed to amateurs like you, me, or others volunteering to build it for free.

If NMRA is involved, it will undoubtedly be HO scale - don't you know that already?

Any other questions, be sure and ask - I'm somewhat of a specialist myself, you know.
