Inside the cover of the new MTH Ready-to-Run catalog are these words:

"In a world where much childhood play takes place on a two-dimensional screen, model railroading offers a form of play that is both old-fashioned and timeless. For more than a hundred years, children have been using toy trains - along with construction sets, toy figures, empty boxes and anything else at hand - to build their own imaginary worlds. There's still enormous value in building something with your hands, making it operate, and sharing it with your family and friends."

Add to that a call to action like "Get into Model Railroading!" - Maybe even "Ask me how I can help!"

Please copy and paste this paragraph into all of the blogs, social media, newsletters, wherever it is that you publish - and spread the word.....

While I am talking about this - the next paragraph they wrote is a good one, too -

"Model trains come in different sizes. O Gauge trains are nearly twice as large as HO Gauge. Compared with HO and smaller N Gauge trains, O Gauge models are easier to handle, more rugged, stay on the track better, sound better due to the larger speaker size, and blend better with other childhood construction toys. That's why, for more than half a century, O gauge trains have been the preferred way to begin a model railroading adventure."

Thank you, MTH....

Mr Muffin 9Steve)... Thanks for sharing

I belong to the TMB model Train Club in Farmingdale NY, the heart of the L.I.R.R. Our club is deeply rooted in promoting the hobby. With our open house events this year we attracted just over 7,500 visitors.  We have one more open house weekend April 6/7 where we will entertain more guests. We do it for FREE. We also maintain a moderate sized modular layout that we transport to various venues to bring the joy of model railroading to Special Ed Schools, retirement homes, veteran organizations and street fairs. Its amazing how appreciative the public is to our efforts and thank us for sharing this with them. As we are an O-Gauge Hi Rail club, the public really relates to us. As there are many quality makers in our gauge including MTH, Atlas, Williams, but it's LIONEL that has the iconic brand name the general public identifies and with the exception of the few Model RR hobbyists that visit us, almost everyone relates to LIONEL and most have some history with Lionel trains in their family.

Keep spreading the joy of our hobby

I donate a train set each Christmas to a family who expresses interest in the hobby but struggles to afford an O gauge train during a time of great expense with young children.  Some of these have resulted in permanent hobbyists at least seasonally.  We all should promote the hobby where we can and offer good will as well.

Thumbs up Scott. I donate a lightly used Lionel set to a church rummage sale each year.

Steve
