Set up tablet to MTH WIFI, it says "stong signal" on the wifi, theTIU is recongnized, light is on in the TIU.  When I add engine the tablet says "no new engine".  Not very many trouble shooting tips. I have followed all in the wifi manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The DCS REMOTES work fine..

How about some info on your device?

When you press the add new engine do you see any address numbers while it searches?

Are there any engines already loaded into the device? possible ID conflict?

Is the connected TIU a version L with USB port or are you using an adapter with an older TIU?

Sounds stupid but you know the track and TIU must be powered on and not just using the WIFI cord for power, right? The light comes on the TIU only to power the processor. Not enough to do engine adds I believe.

I had this happen to a new engine (Factory Default #1) where the slot for engine #1 was already occupied by a Legacy locomotive.  No amount of retries helped.  DCS signal was 10 and other locomotives (whose I.D. # was not 1) could be added with no problem.

I added the locomotive to my handheld with no issue (which changed the I.D. # to new number that was not already in my DCS handheld or phone).

I was then was able to add it to the phone immediately and run it with the Wifi Ap.  This was repeatable with another locomotive with a factory identity of 1 (couldn't add the new locomotive as long as it had the I.D. # of 1).

This might be similar to JINI5 experience (above) if, when he added the engine to the handheld, it changed the I.D. number.

TIU is connected with a USB adapter, trying to load the first engine, firmware is 5.0. Yes they are both powered and they run with the handheld. The lights are constant. Do the remotes get updated also to 6.1?

You have to update to the latest DCS version first thing!

5.0 had the exact problem of locating engines.

In addition to yo Joe's comments:

Make sure that your TIU has firmware 6.10

Your WIU is at firmware 1.1

Your have downloaded the latest version of the app from your app store.

The "TIU" light on the WIU should be on solid (not blinking).

Lights are solid, TIU is 5.0 and I do not know what version the WIFI is, it was just purchased.

even when something is brand new in the box, it may have older software loaded into it. Who knows how long it sat on a shelf or shipped between distributors and the retail stores?

There is just too many issues with the wifi to use now. I tried it but did not like it especially with all the problems, sold it and went back to the remote. The remote does what I need just fine.

My wifi was all as it should remote and TIU 6.1 and wifi 1.1 still too many issues.

Dave

Good point. Yes, you can always quit. Several posters here on this forum, only run in conventional for these reasons.

If you have signal issues, the MTH WIFI will struggle. Early software releases were full of flaws.

I'm happy with how mine works now.

No signal issues at all. Strong signal.

I had no signal issues but there was always a glitch that would pop up every now and then. It should have not been released till it worked as promised. I think in the future I may try it but until it works as it should I'll stay with the remote.

David

It works well now for me. David, I can understand the frustration when they release software that doesn't perform well. They have driven me nuts with that, more times than I care to tell you.

Nothing worse than shelling out cash on some equipment that doesn't work. Some simple software code can mess up everything!

There was a problem with the code in the first WIFI units as well. I don't remember all of the flaws that each DCS version had. I know that they all bit me!

If memory serves me, DCS v6 was released to support the WIU and Apps.  If you are at 5.x, you need to upgrade.

WIU v1.1 is the latest and should be paired with the latest TIU software.

The remote will need to be upgraded as well after the TIU is upgraded.  The DCS loader is fairly self explanatory with the only typical issue being what COM port the connection is attached to.

Everything is updated but now there is a problem loading the app from google.  Think I will go back to my handhelds. Hour on the phone with google and they were no help had to get a refund because the app did not load.  Funny, they get your money right away, you get a refund less than an hour later and it take 5-10 business days to complete, ridiculous.

Jim,

This sounds like it could be an issue with your device or carrier (if it has cellular service).  Google Play has been around quite a while and I've never heard of any issues getting an app from them.  If you would tell us what brand and model of smart device you have and what cellular carrier it's attached to maybe we can continue to help.

Based on this thread, at some point you were getting the message "no new engines" on your tablet so I would assume you had some version of the app working.  What changed?

Tony

Is the NOOK the only option for you to test with? I have a funny feeling the NOOK version of Android may be to blame.

The APP is free to download, for both Apple and Android, which allows you to test its functionality with a loco or two and then once everything is going, you can make the purchase to get the APP's full functionality. No need to make a purchase and deal with credit card issues before you get everything tested. You can download the software on every mobile device/tablet your heart desires, I am sure more than a few will work.

I was a bit hard on WiFi in the beginning and still use my handheld primarily, but when guests and kids come over, WiFi is what they all love to use. I too must admit it is a bit fun and makes certain things, like building MU's, a breeze. Don't give up, it will work, just try another device if possible.

Let us know how that goes.

Hope this helps!
