If you're planning to attend the October meet, you may want to consider visiting the Strasburg Rail Road during the Friday of the meet.

From TCA National..

The restored Norfolk and Southern #611 "J" locomotive is coming to the Strasburg Rail Road for a “Reunion of Steam,” with events and special offerings running September 27 through October 27. This includes special tours, opportunities to fire locomotives, and more!

We are pleased to announce that in cooperation with TCA, the Rail Road is adding a special day of "J" opportunities on Friday, October 18, to accommodate TCA members who may be in the area that week for the York meet.

Several runs will operate on October 18. Details for that day include:

LOL!  The TCA makes an attempt to have TCA members a chance to ride aboard the 611 on no doubt what is a busy as all heck schedule.  While not the best time frame, I suspect they did their best to make this happen at all.

I have to take back what I said.  After thinking about it this will work out perfectly for my son and me.   Made reservations for a cab tour, blow the whistle, and a ride.  After head over to the show by noon and if I don't finish up, I'll attend Saturday AM for the first time.  Thanks TCA!

Wow, stuff is sold out quick, lol. I did get a whistle blow on 611, premium car ride at 10:30, and shop tours at noon. I am okay with what I got as it will be grand no matter what I miss. I will have a blast no matter what. I can't wait. Heck, I still have to register for York and get my hotel accommodations yet, lol. I'll see about that later, been a long day.

Will the track at Strasburg be heavy enough to support the "J"? I remember an exhibit at the B&O Museum showing cross-sections of rail and the weight of the engines it would support.

Well, it's going so I would guess yes.

Well, they operate a 2-10-0 and a 4-8-0 daily so most likely yes. Also, don’t forget that a Pennsy M1, an L1 and a few others were pulled across the line to get them to the RRMPA. I’m sure if they can get a GG1 out and back, they can get a J in and out. I’m assuming she will be staying at Strasburg for the entire month? It would be nice if NS let her go up to Harrisburg to turn around on the wye and/or go across the Rockville Bridge!

I forgot about the shop tour.  Ohwell, another time, I want to get back to York by noon anyway for the meet.  Back shop tour is planned for Steamtown Saturday on the way home anyway.

Maybe in Oct 2020 611 can visit Steamtown.  They could do some really long trips up the grade to Moscow.  I can hear the engine bark up that hill now.  I can dream anyway.

My niece lives up by Scranton and they always pop over there. I have asked her if she has any news of stuff ongoing or if there is some sort of mailing list. I had emailed them via their own questions email and never got anything back. I suppose if she comes up empty handed I can always give them a ring.

I do want to get back to York as well, but I can spend some time over at Strasburg. I'm sure I'll get everything in I usually do(or try to do).

If any of you who has tickets on the J611 Hostling Tour for 10/18 in Strasburg finds you are unable to use them, I would love to buy up to 5.  We are coming all the way from California for the 45 minute ride in the Premium cars at 10:30 that day, but didn't sign up in time for the tour.  The J611 has been my 11-year-old son's favorite locomotive since he was 2 - not exaggerating!  Please let me know if you know of any way we can be on a waiting list or post our interest in buying tickets from a reseller.

Why in the world do you guys shoot VERTICAL VIDEO!! Look at your TV screen! Is it VERTICAL? NO! Look at the screen shown above. Big black bars on each side where PICTURE should be.

Plus, you’re shooting a horizontal subject - a train!

When shooting video with your phone, hold it horizontally.

I have so much video Rich, it's both ways, but the majority is the correct way, lol. Thanks for chiming in. Love hearing from you.

Went to see the 611 on Monday 10/14. Hardly anyone there. Walked up the stairs and blew the whistle.

I would like to go during the week.  Being retired every day is Saturday or Sunday.  I'm hoping to avoid the crowds.  I read the Strasburg site where it goes into the availability of 611 during non-weekend hours.  It states that the loco could be in the shop on some days.

Would you happen to know any more than I at this point about that ?

611 Me front

Why did they have an auxiliary tender on her?

I didn't think to ask I was so caught up in other questions but really enjoyed that they added it to the train today. They did say it was leaving next Monday

Monday the 21st, or Monday the 28th?  I have a picture idea I want to try to capture
