I see that once again Lionel missed the party with the Shark Fin car. Should have been painted up in Jimmy Buffett "Fins" and with sound playing the song!

~~~~^~~~~^~~~~^~~~~^~~~~
And add another 100.00 to the price.
And the kids they are trying to aim it at would all know/care who Jimmy Buffett is, right?  (I'm thinking no).
If you think some movie houses, or restaurant franchises have large licensing fees, you haven't experienced getting a license for Jimmy Buffet stuff.  I haven't personally, but associates in the music biz have, and Jimmy makes a ton of money off of licensing.   Smart businessman.
And I bet he would sell a ton of them just through "Margaritaville"!!!
~~~^~~~^~~~^~~~ Fins to the left, fins to the right ~~~^~~~^~~~^~~~

And...we're the only bait in town.

Check out pages 54-55.  Apparently someone at Lionel is smoking something.

Yeah George, that one really made my jaw drop. I didn't think it was from smoking though.

Yeah, I'm thinking something much, much more serious.

Wow, just wow.  And at $45 a pop MSRP, too.

I simply don't understand it.

George

I think they're cool.   Would look good behind my Beeps

With RMT's Peeps out of stock, Lionel is making a move to corner the market.

I like the O-6-0T train sets on Pg 74-75.   Interesting move into this small size.  I might order the Granite Run Quarry set.   Even these inexpensive engines have LC+2.0.

Interesting to see the Rock Island 4-8-4. The Rock had quite a fleet of large steam locomotives, yet such locos from Lionel have been practically non-existent, which has caused some complaints for quite awhile. Lionel did a Rock Mikado and a Mogel, but it has been years since those came out, and the last large engine, another 4-8-4, was made over 30 years ago (1988)!

The NS OCS engines are going to get me.  I've been waiting for these for some time.

I hope the catalog picture is wrong, the HEP exhaust doesn't look right.

They should have used the current three numbers instead of four to differentiate these from the MTH offerings (or at least given people the choice). Surprised they made these anyway since MTH has made 2 or 3 offerings in PS2 and PS3. NS hardly uses them now except for large executive trips like Augusta.

In the notch 6 podcast they said there will be a second run with the current numbers to help pay for tooling cost. Also stated the passenger cars will be a darker shade of Tuscan red. Will also be a rerun of the theater car buena vista with the darker red to match.

So I guess the executive inspection from Chicago to Harrisburg 2 weeks ago, or the Norfolk to Cincinnati prior to that don’t count?

With the current atmosphere at NS, if it’s not useful it’s gone. The OCS is still used extensively.

As for the numbers, the f units were only recently renumbered in the past few months. I’d rather see them in the 4270 series as they were intended - Wick choose those numbers as continuation of the Southern Railways numbering for their F Units. The current 3 number assigned is pointless.

As for differences - the Lionel will have legacy and railsounds versus the DCS and Proto sounds of the prior MTH releases, and the new Lionel version will have a closer versions of the NS generator and dining cars.
