What is going on here?  Elephant car-jacking... Gator lunches on a lady... and in an effort to escape the madness Billy-Bob is canoeing in the grass.

Sam Champion tries cliff-diving and as luck would have it he swan dives smack dab onto the floating platform.  No worries, not a single hair on his head was disturbed.

On the serious side here are a few more pictures.  Don't worry about the gaps between the sections.  They are on intentional so that the sections do not stick together during the scenery applications.

Can you guess what the black things are?

Rich aka “RD” is excluded as I told him what this was yesterday.

Force Main, and the pipe that goes from one side to the other  under the tracks is called a carrier pipe.

Here is a link with an illustration under trackage, and Southern Pacific specification, the carrier pipe is identified.

Not exactly sure how this thing is piped, but suspect that the smaller pipe is vent piping per the following UPRR diagram:

Not sure about the plumbing to the left, but it appears that the discharge opens just before the tracks in the lower left corner.  Hoping I'm wrong, since I wouldn't want waste water draining onto the lower roadbed.

Regardless of what it is, very nicely done detail.

Jerry

Jerry,

Your analytical and engineering mind is at work again.  I think you may be over thinking this just a bit.  Perhaps my original question was misleading.  I am asking what that object actually is, not what it modeled to represent.

Sorry for the confusion.

Now would you care to venture a guess?

I agree with Jerry. If you are talking about the pipes and that valve gear near the end of the large pipe, I have an idea.
The piece at the end of the large pipe looks like the brake light switch that’s operated by the rear brake pedal on my Harley. With a few detail pieces glued on, of course. The large pipe might be plastic fuel line.

My first clue was...

I am 99.9% sure that every forum member has seen this object at least once in the last six months.

Time for a second clue...

If you live in igloo or a grass hut this will not apply, for al others:

I am 99.9% certain that you, your spouse and all of kids greater than 2 years old have seen this object many times this month.

God luck to ALL.

Santafejim,

Last night Mrs. Lionelski thought I was going nuts because at around 11:00PM I was looking in all of the draws, cupboards, medicine cabinet, etc with no rhyme or reason. Even went down to the workshop and went through all of my stashes.

After reading this thread with the pics and clues a little earlier I figured that if I looked hard enough I'd find what you used, but , even after the above noted search, nuttin'. Very frustrating for this scrounger who has made many new layout items from unexpected sources.

Is the larger part cut from a piano hinge?

Winner, Winner. Chicken Dinner !!!

Lionelski.  You Dah Man !!!  It is indeed a hinge.

Here is part of the email I sent RD:

They have started installing my block signals and they look GREAT.  But that was not the most impressive thing I saw.  You know that I am having a lift bridge with an gas piston to assist.  All that will be hidden under the lift.  The one thing that would have remained visible would have been the two large hinges.

Can you spot them in this picture?

Thats right, they painted them flat black and ran some raised pipe parallel to the hinge.  MInstead of sticking out like a sore thumb, it now looks like it actually belongs there.  These guys are layout building wizards.

In my best Elvis Presley voice "Thank you, Thank you very much".

As much fun that this guessing game was, I'm glad that it is over, I need at least some sleep before York! The one I posted a few weeks ago in the Scrounger thread was guessed in only a day (cheerios painted black to look like tires on the side of my homemade barge)

Anyone else have a challenge like this for us?

As you know, the guys building my layout are multi talented and also have a good sense of humor.  Last Tuesday I stopped in to confirm the locations for my block signals.  While strolling around the layout I spotted an elephant at water spout for the steam locomotives.  As I got ready to take this picture I hear Joe behind saying "mommy, is that you?

It took me a a little while to stop laughing and finally take the picture.  Enjoy
