Hi Folks,
I am back in China checking on the Rock Island Rocket production, and starting the Milwaukee Hiawatha car project and the E7(3.0) and PA reruns.

The Rock Island Rockets are a very special production with a Brass TA diesel and 3 to 4 Aluminum cars to match. These cars are combination of Articulated and Standard cars. The first 2 (3 Car Set) or 3 (4 Car Set) cars are Articulated (Sharing a Truck), and the last car is an Obs car. So we developed a cloth diaphragm for these sets that really is cool. Made from women's skirt material, the black diaphragms have a corrugation to them and are very flexible, spanning the gap on the articulated cars well. The diaphragm is only for show in the last car, as it is non articulated and swings too far in curves. Perhaps with some modification one can make it work. We will include these with the sets for free. They are held on by magnets that embedded in the car's plastic diaphragms.

I'll be posting pictures of these in the coming weeks.

Once the factory has shipped out the Rock Island Rockets, we will begin construction of the E7 and PA reruns. Look for these to be finished in September / October time frame.

After that we will start work on the F3s. Wow, lots of diesels this year.

We are also heavy in the design process for the DRGW L-105 Challenger. This Anniversary Series release will be very exclusive, with only 40 Units made in 3 Rail. Look for this monster to come in late this year. There are still a few reservations left. But not for long. Lots of variations to choose from.

Next on the design table will be the ML-4000 Krauss Maffei Diesel Hydraulic Locomotive. You've probably seen the ads, and on July 22nd they will roll one of them out of the shop at Niles Canyon, CA. They are hard at work restoring her. Read about it here.

Also going into design is the latest offering of Santa Fe Super Chief, the 1938 - 47 version. And the NP North Coast Limited 1957. These will be produced together later this year.

The reservations for the GP7s and GP9s keep coming in, which is a good thing, and Jonathan has promised to work very hard to get all the painting and lettering and details right, Right Jonathan?

We will work on these very carefully until they are produced in early 2020.

Gosh, that's plenty to discuss here. I hope everyone that has received their E5/E6 Diesels and GGD Heavy Weight cars is pleased.

We are working on plans for the Amtrak Amfleet and a Viewliner to go with them. Also working on plans for the C&O Hudson and Cars and the NYC H-10a Mikados. All in good time.

Most important, keep enjoying your hobby. It's never been better than this.

Good evening Scott:

I would like to put in my reservations for the Amfleets, but the reservation page is not immediately available on the front page without a bit of searching, (unless I am blind, which is certainly possible).  I was curious if that page is still good, or if a new one with updated paint schemes (if that is on the map) would be forthcoming in the next few months, which I could reserve then.  Either way, I'd like to get my name on the list, good for at least 5 or 6 of them.  Thanks.

Hi Pantenary,

Not sure if you were looking for an updated list of schemes (to my small amount of knowledge, there has been no such list). That said, here is the link to the reservation page for the Amfleets. Looks like Phases I-IV. http://www.3rdrail.com/reservationGGD.htm

On another note, I am excited that someone is finally producing a Viewliner in O scale. If I am lucky, maybe I can scrape up some money over the next year or two to buy one.

Well... what extra cars would you SF guys want to see in the SF Super Chief offering?

Right now the set includes:

- Baggage Buffet Lounge (Budd)
- Dorm Club Lounge (Budd)
- Diner (Budd)
- 17 Roomette Sleeper (Pullman)
- 8-8-2 Sleeper (Pullman)
- 2X 4-4-2 Sleeper (Pullman)
- Observation Lounge (Pullman)

The SD40-2 just didn't get enough orders to start. So that's why I announced the GP7/9s which reserved up quickly. Gotta focus on what works financially. There's big expenses in design and tooling before anything even gets made. So the orders have to support that process.

Scott just called me from China and we chatted for close to an hour about future projects. He will be doing the Santa Fe Chief and will be making available extra sleeping cars for the train. For you PRR and B&O fans please note that SF 4-4-2 sleeping cars were run on the Broadway Limited and the Capitol Limited. They were transferred in Chicago to/from the PRR and B&O.

I personally recall riding the B&O's Columbian from Baltimore to Chicago in 1958 when the consist included a Santa Fe sleeping car. Although the SF sleeper was normally added to the Capitol Limited it was put on the Columbian this time possibly to balance the train consists. The Columbian usually had 8 cars plus a postal car and a Slumbercoach. The SF sleeper would have made it an 11 car train.

The Capitol was normally about 13 cars long. Both trains were usually handled by a pair of E units. Our Columbian helper up Sand Patch grade westbound was a GP9.

For you folks who want to add some variety to your consists here is a realistic opportunity to add a Santa Fe sleeper.

So when are we going to see another PRR passenger train? How about a PRR steamer as well?

Howzabout a Jeffersonian that Ican run behind my stream-styled K-4?

Unfortunately, I think all of the big PRR steam has been done....more or less. Lovely, small steam..D-16, E-3, etc.... would have a sticker price that few would pay.

Not all PRR big steam has been done. There were a few "non standard" PRR big steam that has yet to be done...

Like the PRR 2-8-8-0 HC1
Lovely engine, kind of a one-off

USRA 2-10-2 N2 class
Good idea, make available in other road names

PRR modified 2-10-2 N2sa
Nice loco, but I already have an N-1...plus the N2sa was not used system-wide.

PRR 2-6-2
Nah. Also, smallish andexpensive givenits size.

You also have the PRR K3 class that 5 were sold to the N&W!
A twofer! This one might sell.

Plus another round of PRR T1's!
Oh, puhleze. Done and overdone.

My question, for other than the USRA 2-10-2, is how much foam do we foamers have left to give for the more obscure Pennsy locos at current prices?
I guess an announcement with a reservation form would tell.

P.S> I also generate foam for Reading locos. Maybe a K1sa?

Can't wait to dive into the details on this one Scott!  Will be working very hard to make this one special like all the rest.

READING! READING! READING!

There has always been a dearth of scale Reading steam locomotives.  We have seen good models of the Pacifics (Weaver & SGL) and T-1's.  I can't think of any other good scale modes in O gauge of Reading steam.

I would love a K1sa, and would order one in a heartbeat!

Until that happens, I'm probably done pre-ordering steam engines.

Such as, e.g., the ubiquitous I-10 2-8-0

I would love a K1sa, and would order one in a heartbeat!
Ditto; would likely be my last expensive loco purchase. Got enough Reading hoppers for it to haul. Anyways, the few, the happy few, of us might start an online campaign to see if there others lurking about. Doubt if Scott would make the investment for just you and me.

Until that happens, I'm probably done pre-ordering steam engines.
For the solvency of my steadily diminishing IRA, this is where I am, as well.

I’d love to see another run of the Congressional. I missed out on that one!

How about a correct fleet of modernism trail blazer?

I assume you mean the 1939 version. Pulled by the S-1 West of PGH. Sadly, if memory serves, the coaches would need to be produced in aluminum, given the extensive mods PRR made to the P-70's.
Update: maybe not. I forgot the modernized P-70 coaches recently released. Might be close enough. The boat-tail obs could be a problem...
Here's a photo of a model version of the Jeffersonian, from"Classic Trains" magazine

Here's a decent article:

One could do the 1948 version, using 3rd Rail's already produced P-85 coaches and theft of the twin-unit diner from the Broadway Limited.
