I'd like to remove the body from a small 027 Lionel plastic caboose. (Example: a Lionel # 9341 ACL caboose built in 1979). I can see two body tabs at each end sticking down into the frame, but they look to be plastic like the body and I'm afraid pushing on them could cause damage. -Any tips re these small cabooses would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Skip

I had one of these apart just recently. Trying to remember...

I'm almost certain you have to first push the end platform out (away from the center of the car). There are thin tabs extending from the platform which (if I remember rightly) pass through a hole in the tab that projects out of the carbody and thru the caboose floor. The tabs holding the platform are black, and lay flat against the underside of the caboose floor, so they are easy to miss.

Thanks! You were absolutely right! Gently pulling out the lower end platforms sprung the body fairly easily from the plastic frame's floor...

Oh, and the reason I am taking the body off a small Lionel plastic caboose is to get at the frame's flooring so I can more easily remove the existing trucks and then attach Marx trucks with fork couplers. My resulting complete train will be double-headed RMT Atlantic Coast Line Beep locomotives, followed by a coupler transition car and then a good consist of Marx 3/16th's freight cars, tailed off by this modified Lionel ACL caboose. {-Which will make yet another beautiful, very small O (SmO) gauge train for my Marx 027 3-rail operation... ;>})
