I won't be there unfortunately.   I had thoughts of going but it is an all day drive one way - at least 8 hours or more.     And my wife just had foot surgery and can't drive, so I can't really leave her alone for a few days.    And if I went that far I would want to stay a few days and railfan.

I have been there once and had a great time.    I am thinking I may try for the october version.

Hey Guys; I haven't heard from John Dunn. He usually emails everyone reminding them to reserve tables by now.  Hope he is well!  Maybe he's on vacation.  I have been trying to reach him to reserve tables for the Reading club and a few fellows as well.

hope to see all you folks  . wishing all of you the Best Of good Health

A recap of my experience at the meet  last spring. It was my first time at the Strasburg meet and probably my last. No one wanted to sell me anything. I found a number of potential purchases but no one was at their table to make a sale. I came back several times over the morning but no one was at the table at anytime. Then I found a dealer at his table. He was in a conversation with someone else. I picked up the item I was interested in and waited politely for the conversation to pause. After 5 minutes or so of completely being ignored I put the item down and left. If you folks don’t want to sell why do you pay to set up? It would appear that this meet is primarily a social event. These dealers probably wonder why they do so poorly sales wise.  I sold antiques at shows and flea markets go over 25 years. If you want to make sales you have to be present and talk to people.

I'm about an hour from Strasburg, but I've never been to that meet.  Appears to be 2 rail only.

You would be surprised as to what actually shows up at a 2 rail meet... And it's not just exclusively 2 rail!

Last I checked structures and scenery are pretty indifferent to the number of rails.  And, you always build rolling stock kits and put whatever trucks you want under them.

Yes and No.  This is a very popular event but only 4 hours long.  I have been guilty in hitting the men's room or grabbing something from another table leaving my table unattended.  If you do not see the table holder just ask.  Thjs is absolutely the friendliest group of vendors I have ever worked with.  Someone will find your table holder.  They always find me!

Hopefully it wasn't me that you wanted to talk to!

Yes, for many of us that are dealers we are part of the big O scale fraternity.  Yes we are there to sell our wares but also to socialize.

At many meets folks that are dealers have their contact info on the table since they too are roaming to visit and shop.   Remember, these shows are a long distance affairs for many of us too and it's our infrequent chance to commiserate with old friends and make new ones.

I personally like a low-key sales experience, not a hyped up salesman who is pushy.

And I find that O scale meets are generally very low key and wandering around and making friends is part of the experience.

If you choose to go to a show or to come back to Strasburg, stop and chat with folks.  Some of us seem like old curmudgeons but we're first and foremost o scalers and love to talk trains with anyone willing to do so with us.

Don't let one sour apple keep you from enjoying all of the good fruit.

Looking forward to it .

Sometimes you have to be proactive and engage others. That applies to getting material things, but social interaction as well. If you want something on someone's table, someone knows who the table belongs to (John or Rich), and the place has an intercom system. The people there have seemed friendly enough but I'll be on the lookout for the unfriendly ones this time. Be on your best behavior, Rob.

It must have been you. I was there and only had to wait a couple of minutes for a few vendors as they were dealing with another customer. I never had any of the experiences that you describe.

This is as much of a social meet as it is a sales show.  Most of the vendors are hobbyists, not dealers, who are there to enjoy themselves by keeping old friendships current while themselves searching for that elusive item for their own railroad.  It may be a bit unrealistic to assume this show format is populated by high-pressure used-car salesmen types.  I've run into the situation described by Mr. Lasley, but I can track the owner down or notify the person at an adjacent table that I'm buying the desired item, either paying them to give the money to the owner or securing the item with a SOLD note on it with your name and cell phone number.  Helpful to bring a pad and pen for that too.  Probably some can think of other solutions; but the point is to enjoy the show.  I'm as happy as a clam at these shows!  Thanks, Messrs. Dunn and Yoder.

2 weeks until Strasburg meet - who's going?  I'll have the largest amount of cars, structures, parts, tools, and "stuff" that I've ever had loaded up for the meet.

Stop by my tables and help me liquidate some of my FiL's estate and my future estate now!

Perhaps a thread title updated is needed?

John-Rich-Strasburg Fire Department---Thank you, thank you!  another perfect swap meet day. The weather, the people, the hosts, the wide assortment of offerings, the free parking, easy load/unloading,  super pricing.

One decade of consistent quality  train shows!  Worth arranging travel plans around.

The October show is just around the corner................

John/Rich,  the Strasburg Fire Company has been such a flawless, friendly & economical host for 0 scale what would be the chance of marketing an 0 scale fire engine lettered for the Strasburg Fire Co?  Men even try to get a   model featuring one of their own trucks.

Might even be something that they may be interested in themselves for their fund raising????
