Legacy Controller "Sticky"

Yes I have the same situation on one of my Cab2's.  The original one I bought way back in the beginning.  Its the rubber breaking down (I have had this happen on computer mice, keyboard pads, etc.  

Nothing you can really do and there are no separate pads you can buy to replace them.  I was going to try and coat them with something to seal them up, but haven't found anything yet.  Perhaps an automotive rubber restorer or something.

Just dirt...

Use a mild cleaner like Goo Gone and tooth pics to clean out the groves.

Wipe after with clean water.

I used isopropyl alcohol, 90%, and rubbed the coating off on one. Be careful with goo gone, it melts some plastic like maybe the display window.

I did the same thing as Chuck, I just used Alcohol and removed the coating.  You will never fix the coating, the only "fix" is to remove it. You end up with a shiny plastic base, and your fingers don't stick to it. 

I had the same issue with heavily handled Verizon remote controls, I applied the same fix.

I used Goo Gone too, I think.  Didn't get any near the display I am sure, so luckily I don't have experience with what Chuck said, but it makes sense to be careful and only get it where you want it.

Unless I don't understand, isn't that sort of like saying the sticky side of duct tape will wear off if you touch it with your fingers enough?   (I know, it's far less sticky than duct tape, but what other influence makes the stickiness go away?)

This problem actually developed over time, right?  None of the original remotes were sticky right out of the box.

I did the Alcohol wipe off to on a couple of my early legacy sets.  Just happens.  Like others I've seen it on some TV remotes as well.

The problem is the coating just gets sticky, the only way it'll "go away" is when all the sticky is on your hands and none on the remote!  I lived with it for about a year and finally decided to try to clean it off,  On future remotes, I just immediately cleaned it off.

I don’t have an answer. I responded simply because it does go away after time. No big deal. 

Remove it. Did it to mine years ago.

Rod, I lived with it for a couple of years, and it was showing no signs of getting better.  Also, the remote was starting too look like it was dropped in the dirt and rolled around.  Once I took the sticky coating off, magically the dirty look was gone too!   When I got a new remote, I just immediately cleaned off the coating, no sense in waiting for it to go the same route.
