I placed a brand new MTH 4-4-0 American 20-3591-1 on the tracks today and the Odometer said there were 6,884 miles on it. The chronometer said no time though. Has anyone seen this before? While I know it is new this could effect the resale value someday if I decide to sell it. What would need to be done to get this reset to zero?

I don't know if this phenomena translates into PS3 locos, but when I had this happen sometimes on several P2 engines, I realized at one point (for at least one engine with the problem) it was more prevalent if I was not feeding the track a full 18volts.  (i.e., I saw the problem, realized the voltage wasn't all the way up, powered down everything and when I powered back up I dialed the voltage higher and the problem then disappeared)

Are you using bricks (or a TIU on a fixed voltage channel, etc), or are you feeding the track directly with something that is adjustable?

May not be your issue, but it's something to give a quick try, if you are using transformer handles or variable channels to feed the track.

There are quite a few old posts on odometer readings, but most were I think from before P3 came out.

My earliest case (my first, early Proto 2 R21 subway set) that was permanent had to be reset by MTH.  This was back when they were still doing repairs in a tent at York.  While I ultimately did convince them to do it, the tech wasn't too good at math and didn't understand why 29,000 or so miles(which was wrong)  in 6 hours (which was probably correct) was a physical impossibility.

Pretty sure John is right about the fix only being able to be done by MTH.  This is a common enough problem, it should be something a dealer could fix(but it's not).  But then again, the whole point of the odometer gets diluted then (as it does when a brand new engine shows 6,884 miles right out of the box. )
