Thanks all.....let's hope this leads to all the pld Revell 1/48 kits are re-popped!
Dave. I hope so but I think the Honest John Kenworth went to Germany this last time it was re-released.

I looked at this kit on the Atlantis website, and the description leads me to believe it comes with Sinclair AND military "markings", if that is interpreted as decals.
Molded in green plastic with decals for Sinclair AND US Army fuel tanker......

Bottom line is if there is support for vintage kits Atlantis will continue to restore vintage tooling and run kits. More than you ever wanted to know about this stuff.......but I have worked in the plastic kit hobby since the 1980's so important to me!!
So, after repeated use, these plastic kit toolings start to lose their "crispness?" Or, something like that?
I ask because … after many decades … I'm starting to build some model kits again. I'm going to purchase an old Monogram 1/48 B-24J Liberator. I believe it was new tooling in 1976. And, re-released 7 times over the next 17 years. All of these different re-boxings do pop up on eBay.
Some folks on a modeling website suggested that it is best to purchase one of the first releases of the kit (with their somewhat higher cost)… because the tooling would be in the best shape. Should I heed their advice?
Thanks
Older tooling does wear. How they are maintained is a big issue. The Monogram B-24 is only 45 years old about.....a youngster in tooling age where kits from the 1950's, like this Revell tanker, are still around. I'd not pay a lot for a early issue B-24 kit....Monogram maintained it well.
My build from first issue built in the 70's. My cat jumped on it and it broke it's back....like a real plane!!!
I think we'll be safe with this kit. Revell took care of this tooling and it's still crisp this is not a AMT kit. I wouldn't be scared to buy one
Lee, or anyone that has this model. What is the length of it when it is connected. Will it fit on a Weaver 50 foot flat car. I was thinking of maybe taking one of the kits and doing it in Army paint and putting it on a flat car..........Paul 2
The White tankers really are memorable trucks. I had fun kitbashing two "MiniTank" trailers into a 1/87 scale Esso tanker (cab is a resin kit from Sylvan Models) for my HO scale layout, and I've wanted to bid on a few vintage Revell kits on eBay to build the 1/48 scale version. The price of the "new" Atlantis kit is very reasonable by comparison.

The Truck and Trailer combined is about 9 1/2 in. The Trailer is 7 3/4. The Truck is 4". I think it should fit. Here's a pic of one I have unbuilt on a AHM 40' flat I converted into a Pig car Hope this helps

Thanks Lee. I think the Weaver flat is going to work....................Paul 2

Excellent!
Atlantis owner told me he has lots of 1/48 kits.......civilian, military and commercial. As long as it sells...he'll keep restoring the old tooling and run it.
Hi Dave, that is great news, looks to be a really nice kit. I'd definitely be interested in at least one.
Dave
Maybe there's hope for the honest john Kenworth after all
Excellent. Did someone say Hobby Lobby will offer this kit? If so when ? Thanks

Hobby Lobby has been carrying Atlantis kits but Atlantis owner said HL has yet to order this one.....direct order may be best.
Dave: Thanks for the tip just preordered 2 kits from the Atlantis web site.

Also two different SCALES. The B-25 is 1/64, or the same size as S gauge.
The B-24 is listed as 1/92, but that seems like an odd scale.

That's what I posted earlier as 'Box scale' Back in the day models were scaled to fit a company standard box.....say 12 inches long by 4 inches wide. The kit company didn't care about a constant scale....just fit the box!!
Dave, I hadn’t thought of it in that way, but thinking back to building all kinds of plastic kits in the ‘60s I would have to agree.
Dave
you are most certainly right there's were all kinds of scales back then. I'm glad atlantis is naming the scale instead of us guessing or measuring every one
Absolutely, Lee!

Ah-ha! That makes sense. It's still going on today. Hot wheels or johnny lightning or one of the other manufacturers who make mostly 1/64 scale, made a Sherman tank recently. It's listed as 1/64, but measures out to about 1/83, but it's the same length as a 1/64 automobile.
Boy was I disappointed.
Atlantis models announced two more 1/48 scale models that may be of interest. One is a Russian tank the other a 8" US heavy Gun kit. Both have a retail of about $20 but if Hobby Lobby gets them tou could find them for around $12. Check Atlantis site for photos and info.
Thanks Dave and I see Hobby Lobby has the Patton tank now would make a great flat car load
I'll have to get to Hobby Lobby to see if they have the tanks. I hope they will carry those heavy gun kits too......Paul 2

Milnyc, You did a beautiful job with yours. Mine is still in the box unassembled.
VERY WELL DONE!!
Atlantis has a 1/48 WW II Air Cobra fighter plane out now too.....good flat car load!
What color Testor's did you use?

I used 1224 gloss green. I was able to buy 3 extra decal sheets from Atlantis for future projects, $7.50 shipped. I already used the leftover Army decals on another project.
I just ordered one. Does anyone know the how long the model is with the trailer and cab?
