I am just starting my setup and bought a Lionel Lionchief starter set and a lot of track/switches/etc.  I always wanted to be able to run two trains on the same layout, so I put together a nice 5x10 outer/inner loop with crossovers (sorry if I don't know the right terminology).  I have a bunch of working cars from my 1950's O27 set, so now I need another locomotive.  And since the one that came with the set is steam, I'd like to get a diesel.

I understand that Legacy will also work on a Lionchief layout (obviously the locomotive needs its own controller).

Does anyone have either a reasonably priced Legacy or Lionchief diesel locomotive they want to sell?  I have been looking online and am amazed at how expensive they can be.    I'm happy with a used one in good condition, since this is a part-time hobby and something I can share with my grandson when he comes to visit.

You should probably do a little more research on the the various control systems before purchasing anything more.  Legacy does not run on a Lionchief layout.  Lionchief can run on a legacy layout. You cannot run a Legacy loco without the Legacy control system ($300 or so). To make it more confusing, Lionchief 2.0 will see locos that are compatible with Legacy but will be more expensive.  Sounds like you should target a Lionchief or Lionchief Plus loco.
