LONG ISLAND TOY TRAIN LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEERS

WWII Memorial tribute U.S. Navy Airplane w/translucent (see through) colored flatcar

Dear Fellow Trainees:

The Long Island Toy Train Locomotive Engineers (LITTLE) is producing a Lionel commemorative car. Production of this car will be extremely limited to only those who purchase this car in advance.

During World War II, Grumman became known for its "Cats", Navy fighter aircraft, F4F Wildcat and F6F Hellcat. Both were designed for ease of manufacture and ability to withstand significant damage. Grumman's products were considered so reliable and ruggedly built that the company was often referred to as the "Grumman Iron Works".

On May 29, 2004, President Bush dedicated the World War II Memorial to honor "The Greatest Generation," 59 years after the end of WWII. Regrettably today, very few of these elderly veterans have the funds, knowledge or strength to complete a conventional trip to Washington D.C.

Funds raised from the profits of the sale of this car will go toward Honor Flight Long Island, a non profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. Honor Flight Long Island flies our nation's heroes to Washington, DC to visit and reflect at their memorials. Over the past five years, Honor Flight Long Island has sponsored 25 flights honoring over 840 Long Island World War II veterans, and 43 Viet Nam veterans. All veterans fly at no cost to them, made possible by individuals and groups such as LITTLE. It is the intention of Honor Flight Long Island to honor as many of these selfless "ordinary people who saved the world" as we can by providing them a FREE trip to visit their memorials. http://honorflightlongisland.org/

This Lionel factory produced Airplane on Flatcar (6-58556) in “O” Gauge will be painted prototypical Navy blue with a translucent (see through) skyblue colored flatcar (to simulate it being in the air) and has the markings of Bethpage N.Y., site of Grumman’s first airfield and plant and the birthplace of the famous F4F-3 Wildcat Navy fighter. It features die-cast metal sprung trucks and the tribute U.S. Navy airplane. It will also come in a custom box displaying a “fouled anchor” and the Naval Aviator Insignia shown here.
