Driving into Roodhouse, IL this afternoon and on the fly decided to take these scenery shots that might give a modeler some ideas.  First is an anhydrous ammonia depot(agriculture use, injected into corn fields pre-planting) second, the feed company.  I resized to edit out sky and car mirror on some.  Free to do anything you want with the photos if they are of use.

Thanks so much Mike!  I really appreciate your kind words.  

Actually my layout is 100 sq. feet which as you know is not large by any standard.  The three shots I chose to show today are actually all from the same spot on my layout.  Unleashing my imagination, I used different camera angles ( and added the Docksider )  to give the impression that the Mountain Division is larger than it is in actuality .  While not my intention to mislead anyone, in my imagination the FJSR is a BIG railroad that cover lots of miles ... LOL!   I think my OGR brethren  might be disappointed if they ever saw my layout in person because it is not gigantic.  Gigantic exists only in my imagination and my intention is to convey that " giganticness" through my photos.  I love to think about the scene I want to create,  get a concrete intention, set up the scene, and follow through with my camera work.   Although I'd love to have a layout the size of Larry's beautiful layout ( who wouldn't ! ), I'm grateful that I even have 100 square feet in which to be creative.  Ever since my layout was featured in Run 290 of OGR Magazine, photography has become a derivative hobby of model railroading.  I do the best I can with what I have and most of all I have BIG fun doing it!  I'm grateful, honored,  and humbled that my photos are enjoyed by so many on this forum.

Trumptrain, it’s not the size of your layout, it’s the fun you have with running your favorite trains. Your scenery is Amazing and your pictures show that your imagination runs wild, like a well tuned orchestra. You may toot your horn, joking. Thank you for the compliments. Mike g. I appreciate the compliments, but, it’s a great hobby and everybody here makes it more fun to run our trains. The colors in your scenery are spectacular! The realism of your track-side clutter shows that you know prototype railroading very well. Bravo on a great train layout!!!!

FarmerJohn - I absolutely agree on the Santa Fe "F" diesels both in Kodak blue and yellow and the classic war bonnet silver and red. Burlington red and silver, and ICG orange and blue and the orange and white colors. Of course if that's what we see growing up makes sense that's what we are comfortable with.

For steam the SP Daylight is awesome and I am now quite impressed by the colors of the Milwaukee Road Hiawatha electrics EF-2s and up.

Randy - thank you for all these kind words!  

You were a huge help to me when I was constructing the layout ... hence my naming the mountain, Mt. Randolph, after you.  It took a team to build the FSJR and each member of the team is a Vice President of Something or Other ... LOL!     I'm grateful to my brother Chris ( VP of Benchwork Construction ) , You and your son Chris ( VPs of Electrical Infrastructure & Woodworking ) , and Todd Butler ( VP of Procurement of Cheap Train Stuff from thrift stores ... LOL! ) .  Without all of you the Free State Junction Railway may have come to be, but not to the extent it has become.  As you know, there are parts and scenes on the layout named after each of you .... Lake Christopher, Butler Junction, my brother's business Benchmark Homes, and of course Mt. Randolph.  All I did was create the track plan, track laying, some electrical, and the scenery.  You all baked the cake all I did was frost the cake with the scenery.

Farmerjohn...I share your thoughts for the Santa Fe warbonnet series.  I'm dedicating the "Charles Street Yard" to my SF engines.  That's an incredible trestle you have on the layout...with the engines crossing it, the scene is better than the real thingCharles Yard 11
