This MOW crew is clearing away brush to make way for a rail and tie storage area.   The Big Hook will be arriving within a couple hours to unload flat cars of rails and cross ties ... just another day on the railroad. EA1A7FC2-81CC-45E5-887C-2FECB2A0A0DB

Patrick, the MOW crews never rest or get a break'.. There is always something they have to do...  Active scenes Pat',  nice work as usual'....✔😁🌟

Coach - it certainly looks like you have a lot to show here!  It's where you are in the layout building process and my imagination tells me that you are going to have one fine looking layout when completed!!  Please keep show us more of your progress and keep us up to date.  You are doing it!!!

Thanks Patrick! It has been a lot of slow work, but at least I am moving forward!

@Quarter Gauger 48 - Loved your pictures of the section house and crew...however, I find it hard to believe that the MOW foreman drives a Renault!!  My wife (then my girlfriend) had one of those in the 60's got into a tangle with a big Buick ... Renault lost ...  @leapinlarry - great pictures of your layout, I remember seeing it in person, looking great!

At the other end of the "scale/realism" menu...here is a 1930 Hornby M0  0-4-0 pulling a set of 50's postwar Mettoy freight wagons.  The M0 line, like the matching Mettoy line, was 0 gauge but somewhat smaller than the more expensive offerings from the companies.

Best wishes - cold, frozen rain, 29 degrees here in Central Texas.  Winter has finally arrived.

@coach joeJoe, wow, thank you for the kind words on this frosty cold morning here in Tennessee. Yes, I get really comfortable running trains, the head sweat band works for me. Do you have a layout, if so place some pictures for our review. @Quarter Gauger 48, Yes, I love his great pictures of how life used to be, amazing realism, neat automobiles, beautiful ladies, Wow. How is the weather out your way. Happy Railroading Everyone   ( see Farmerjohns beautiful steamer from the rear end)EC653434-20F5-45D6-AB8D-4FBFBCD925D431522F5E-B007-459D-8B2C-E4BF39CCF49C

Larry I wish I had a layout.  3 years after moving to SC I'm still trying to make enough room in the spare bedroom to get a 4x8 up and running.  I always thought I would have a bigger space so I have way too much train stuff that was stored in the room when we moved.  With no basement or shed I'm still trying to organize storage for all my stuff, train and otherwise.  I think I'm getting close, i need to find a place for 6 or 8 more boxes of train stuff to have enough room to work with.

Great pictures everyone, They all sure look like fun!

Larry with freezing rain and chance of snow it sounds like a wonderful idea to stay inside and have fun!

Coach don't worry you will find the room! But I love when you post the new autos you find!

As for me no photo right now, I will stop in later and drop one off!

Mike, sometimes I think it's the smalls that are killing me.  I think I've got enough cars, trucks, motorcycles, busses boats and the like for the old Roadside America layout, but I can't walk passed one of those car racks in the store without stopping and looking.  My only saving grace is most are too large in scale.

FOR TODAY :  Meet Ernie and Toady from  the Free State Junction Railway MOW Dept.  These fellers hired out with the railroad 20 years ago today.   In celebration of their two decades of service, the rest of the MOW gang ( not pictured ) plans to take these fellers out for supper tonight at Edna's All You Can Eat Buffet ( known to locals as the "feed troff" ) More than likely they'll all wind up at O'Bryans Pub after the pig out at Edna's. ... just another day on the railroad! @coach joe, wow, I understand what your saying, but, in reading your profile you live near Myrtle Beach, so that’s a beautiful place to be. I will be traveling that way one day and maybe we can have a cup of coffee together. Although I have a layout now, I’m downsizing a little at a time, and my favorite trains will be shelved and then I’ll go see my friends with layouts for fun. There’s a lot of folks with great model railroads I’d love to visit. Harmonyards is located in Shiloh, NC., and I’ve been there. So, I just love to travel. @Mike G, one day I’m coming your way to, I have friends in Seattle and it’s on our bucket list, even a trip to Alaska. So, keep the light on. It’s the friends in this hobby that make it so much fun. Happy Railroading Everyone 1FC8D3E4-8245-49D1-9A80-05FA4C3F6C8D

Boy Patrick.......another case of people not wanting their refuse deposited near their own area.

( Seems like this could have been covered with some tarps or a privacy fence ............then again ..........the scene does seem to ADD to the feel of The Free State Junction Railway )

Nice photo.

Okay Patrick & Dallas'.. here is a MOW crew being reassigned to the The Free State Junction Railway to clean up that mess. Their superintendent is friends with the president of the free state, and is happy to lend a hand.. Since it is a week-end job, the crew is happy to receive double time for their efforts..😉

Okay Ted!  Thanks for the offer of sending this motley crew down to help clean up efforts on the FSJR. These guys look qualified for the job for sure!   Tell them to have their rears in Patsburg at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.  They should report to MOW assistant superintendant W. E. Kleen at the FSJR main office on Patsburg Ave located directly across from team track 3.   The FSJR will pay double time, 3 hot meals, and they can sleep over in one of our bunk cars.  This will be a two day project.  Lots to clean up ... so no boozing it up on Saturday night.  We need to have these men in good shape for a good day's work on Sunday.

Dallas - I agree, the junk pile does add to the layout's ambience ... lol !

FOR TODAY:  WPBTV reports a train derailment in Lower Patsburg.  A run away boxcar ran through a switch and collided with the locomotive of a freight train.  Both the locomotive, a tank car,  and boxcar derailed.  There was much concern about the flammable load carried by the tank car directly behind the locomotive, as the derailment caused a slight rupture of the tank.   Patsburg Fire Dept was immediately summoned to the scene.  More details  to follow.    99C29F03-9996-4D6D-B6C3-0AC0F55C5DC4CF07B62D-854F-4F49-9A3A-71D931763E7D_1_201_a

Two girl friends of the MOW crew temporally being assigned to the FSJR, decided they'd make an effort to drive down from The Ponderville & Wordens Navigation & Traction RR, home town, to visit Their men for the week-end.  They had hoped to close the deal on the Packard convertible at Integrity motors they've had their eyes on.  However, the Sales Mgr, Ernest Dealtoro, will not budge on the price.  He explains to them, Packard Ragtops are difficult to find and are in high demand.  If lowers the price, he may get fired as the owner of the business insists on full market price.  Ernest, recommends the Ford.  But the girls' want the Packard, as they like the color....

They are determined to make the trip.  Lets see what they come up with to make that happen'..😏

The double time sounds good Ted .

I think a good sales pitch would get the guys on ' beerthirty '  a lot faster if they could sell the tarp and privacy fence idea.
