First I apologize if I posted this in the incorrect forum. I didn't know which forum it would be best to post it in. Nothing seemed to match.

Many years ago at York I bought 3 negatives to photos of trains. These are old photos taken approximately 100 years ago. My question is someone once told me that when it comes to old pictures if you own the negative you own the copyright to that picture. Is this true?

Just wanted to know in case I want to post them someday.

No. Copyright resides with the photographer. Then again, if the photos are old enough, it (and the photographer) probably expired.
