Recently on Sunday Scenic showcase I posted some photos of the Pennsy switch tower I was constructing out of foam. There were a few questions about the medium, so I threw together a quick project using some leftovers to illustrate how I work with AK interactive carving foam.

A retaining wall isn’t that exciting but provides a nice example of how you can shape and surface this product. I loosely modeled it on the PRR stonework I remember seeing growing up in southeastern PA.

To start I cut the 10mm board length wise. Then using a ruler and scribe I added lines to represent stone blocks. Rounding the edges and adding some surface imperfections really helped add realism.

Then I added an initial coat of white acrylic. The paint dries quickly which allowed me to add grey washes soon after. Some diluted rust color was randomly added to a few bricks to represent stones with iron deposits.

It’s nothing groundbreaking but it’s a nice project that can be completed in an evening.
