Yesterday while running at one of my clubs, I pulled my Lionel Lionmaster Class A (Legacy) out of the O Scale Hauler and find that my Front set of drivers detached from the Body and motor of the loco. The drivers are attached with 2 screws and a special little metal piece that connects a rod to the motor wing which connects to the motor. I attempted to put it back on but after 30 minutes of wrestling with the engine, I gave up and had it sent back to Lionel for repair. If I knew where the missing screw went and it was easier to fix, I would haven't sent it back.

This has happened to my Lionel Lionmaster Legacy Big Boy however there was only one screw, and I was able to reattach the screw which also connected to the motor so I didn't have to experience the fight before the A yesterday.

This is reminder that every so often turn your articulated Locos over and tighten down the screws of the loco connecting to the motors so you don't have a situation like I do. I plan on doing this every time I run all my articulateds for now on.

Thanks

Always a good idea to check your equipment from time to time. We don't run our automobiles without oil changes, tire rotation, new filters and, in the Good Old Days (not so much...) frequent plugs, points, condenser, timing maintenance - and more. These little RR machines of ours are just that: machines, and they need regular inspection and attention.

The specific problem you had would really only apply to Lionel Lionmaster, MTH RK and K-line "sub-scale" articulateds, as they are constructed pretty much the same way - very much like a diesel loco with swiveling engine "trucks", disguised as back-to-back steam engines.

The upper-end/1:48 articulateds are constructed more like the real thing (fixed rear engine, swinging, not swiveling, front engine), and will have their own sets of needs. They also have one big motor and a long jointed driveshaft. They need eyeballing, too.
