This isn’t intended as a suggestion, rather, I’d like it to be interpreted as a respectful request. As the OGR Forum presently hosts separate boards for S gauge and Tinplate discussions, I ask consideration be given to the creation of a board for discussions pertaining to other scales – Large, OO, HO, N, TT, Z, etc. – for those of us who work in these other scales in addition to O. I, myself, am active in HO and N and I’ve greatly enjoyed participating in threads about these scales whenever they come up. I’m acquainted with numerous O gauge railroaders who participate in additional scales and I’ve noticed these threads generate a good level of interest whenever a member starts one. I realize there are other outlets for these specific areas of interest but I suspect the majority of OGR Forum members are comfortable here and I’m confident a board for other scales would be quite active and appreciated. Furthermore, it would provide us an opportunity to discuss these topics without infringing upon the primary focus of O gauge on the three rail forum. Thank you for your time and consideration in reading my post.

Regards,

Bob

We have Tinplate and S Scale forums because Lionel and American Flyer are so closely tied to the history of the 3-rail O scale segment of the hobby.

But that "connection" becomes rather tenuous when you add in the other, smaller scales. Since we are a magazine which focuses on the O scale segment of the hobby, we're not prepared to get into administering forums which deal with other scales with which we are not as familiar.

It never hurts to ask, but in due consideration, to start letting in HO/OO, N, Z and G...guess there's an F scale out there too, it would kind of take away from the nature of this whole forum- O gauge railroads.

Bob, do a web search of the scale of your choice and join in they're group{s}, but if you've got any O, On30, S or old tinplate{elec or clockwork} stick around...this is a great forum!

Michael is certainly correct.  I belong to several Large Scale forums and several On30 forums (in addition to the narrow gauge forum we have here), as well as a couple of Marklin HO sites.  Anything you might want or need is just a couple of clicks away and you'll link up with the most devoted and knowledgeable fans in each area.

Allan:

As one who also enjoys large scale and have an outdoor layout, can you suggest a large scale forum that deals with the actual running of trains outdoors.  I have tried the logical source but found it most difficult to use.

Thanks,

Don

I would also be interested in an other scales forum. Evidence the recent MTH HO thread.

Given that Lionel, American Flyer, Atlas, Sunset, and now MTH make or made HO equipment it seems appropriate and given most responders likely model in more than one scale most content would be free of one scale better than the other threads.

Although other scales are discussed in occasional threads here from time to time, PLEASE keep in mind that this is OGR Publishing Co., O Gauge Railroading magazine, and the O Gauge Railroading Online Forum.

There are plenty of other forums for online discussion of other scales, ranging from Z scale through Large Scale (I listed just three LS sites in an earlier post), and the real experience and expertise related to those other scales is found on those sites.

It would also be really nice if folks here would remember that this forum is moderated, and that task already consumes a whole lot of time and effort.

Allen, with all due respect that argument appears weak and arbitrary given S gauge and Standard gauge are supported here.

Pete

Standard Gauge falls under the tinplate umbrella and is really the "grandfather" of O.  S gauge is here because one of the partners is interested in that scale (his prerogative).  If it was my decision to make--and with absolutely no offense intended to S gaugers--it would not be included in this forum.  Weak or not in your view, that's how it is.  It is, after all, our forum to organize, operate, and pay for.

Allan,

This is a good time to say thank you to you & OGR & staff for providing this forum for us, it's best on the net IMHO! And thanks for the great magazine too, also best available IMHO! (Been thinking this for a while, just never got around to saying anything.)

I would like to see it remain as is, please keep it that way!

Thanks,
Tom
