IMO, It is certainly worth the price. I'm going a step further saying you should get a digital subscription as well as be a supporting member. Here's why I think this. I have now read every issue ever printed. I have yet to view the vidio library but look forward to it. This is an incredible amount of content for the money. This forum is invaluable and I am suprised there aren't more supporting members at just $12.00 a year. I can't imagine anyone not finding the super low cost of $12.00 supporting member and or $32.95 for digital subscription a steal of a deal. This forum is worth much more than $12.00 a year and the digatal subscription is worth every penny.

As said above, you will receive an email from Crowdstack unless you have auto-renewed.  Take a look at your original receipt for more details.

Thanks!

Your welcome Alan, I know running the forum and magazine isn't getting anyone rich but more for the love of the hobby. You can't beat $12.00 a year or a dollar a month to see what all these great folks are accomplishing. Just curious Alan, do you know what percentage of the forum viewers are either magazine or digatal subscribers?

Thanks Dave.  As far as providing a percentage here on the forum, all I can say is that the VAST majority of forum members are not subscribers nor supporting members.

All of us need to keep this forum fully supported.

I personally would feel a great loss if this forum were to shut down.

Absolutely.  This is one of the biggest bargains in the hobby.  Actually, it most likely is the biggest.

My supporting Membership is due to auto renew today.

I just checked and have it set to auto-renew along with my print and digital subscriptions.    I couldn't see how to check the Memorial Supporter renewal but I'll auto-renew that as well if someone is able to point me in the right direction.  If not, I'll give OGR a call.

Initially last year when the Memorial Membership was setup I had sent  Alan a check.  Since my Supporting Membership renewed today, I went ahead an purchased the Memorial Memberships via my CC card.  I too hope they can make this an auto renew function as well.  It also needs to be a sub menu in the "Supporting Member" link in the blue bar.

It really is worth the contribution to the forum.  It has given me more than I could put a dollar amount on. The friendships, camaraderie, and information is more than anywhere else.  After all when I'll spend dollars on a train, the information I get here saves me money in the long run.  I would also encourage those who use the forum to visit the Forum Sponsors and make purchases there and let them know you appreciate their sponsorship!

Well said!  I couldn't agree more!

It really is very gratifying, both personally and also professionally in my role with the magazine, to see many of our most loyal followers willing to help support our efforts with the forum and the magazine. It would certainly be great if the numbers were greater, but I just want those who do regularly contribute to know that they are valued and greatly appreciated. Our aim is to have the #1 magazine in this segment of the hobby, and to maintain our status as the go-to online forum for information and entertainment. You folks are a BIG part of making that happen!

Maybe this is not good to say here but why would a supporting membership not be required to join this forum? Or at least once they get a month or so in be required to become a supporting member to keep their membership? $12 a year is nothing. I was suprised to hear the vast majority are not supporting members. Personally this forum has been life changing for me by helping me get into this hobby again after having trains as a kid. I would spend much more than a $1 a month for the great information and advice I have gotten on this forum and I don't even have a nice layout. Just some track going around the base boards of my man cave. 😄

Can someone please tell me how the digital subscription works incase it is something I am interested in?

Thanks

Brad

Basically a Digital Subscription is like a paper subscription but without the paper

Plus

  • You get to see the magazine earlier than paper subscribers.
  • You get bonus content such as a larger set of photos on many of the layout stories.
  • You also have access to every issue ever printed, on line.
  • You can download all of the past, present editions to keep on your own device.
  • Access to the Video Digital Library.
  • I'm sure I'm leaving something out.

Thanks Marty, is that accessible within the forum or something seperate? I typically access the forum with my cell phone so I rarely see the forum homepage if it is there. Usually goes straight to the topics.

Brad

Part of cleaning out my storage unit was going through 26 plastic crates full of train magazines dating back to the 1930's.  While there are several publications that are out of print that I decided to keep, getting an online subscription to OGR and some others allowed me to recycle 20 crates of said magazines.

Great resources, but get enough of them and they take up a ton of space.  That alone is worth the digital subscription for OGR and I haven't even gotten to the content part of it!

The forum supporting membership is just a no-brainer.  $12.00 a year?  It is a great value.

It has a separate login but you can access via the blue bar at the top of the web page screen or on at least the iPhone a drop down menu (3 lines), under Digital Portal.

Definitely become a supporting member, and I highly recommend the digital subscription. The value of the information you get from the forum far exceeds the $12.00 donation. With the subscription, you get bonus content that isn't in the printed issues, plus you don't have to take physical space storing old issues and you have virtually instant access to old articles without searching through boxes of old magazines.

EDITING MY ORIGINAL POST, because I didn't read YOUR POST closely enough...

Bruce, you are correct that if you try to access an issue FROM THE INDEX, it will direct you to the page where you would have to purchase that issue. That's a good catch, and I had not thought about that when I originally built that index. I will have to see if I can fix that little bug.

If you have an active (not expired) digital subscription and you’re logged into your account at SimpleCirc, you can access every issue of OGR in the OGR Digital Library for free. You can either view the issue online or download it.

Here's something else that will come in handy for all you digital subscribers. It's the All Time OGR Index!

The index contains information about every article that has appeared in the pages of OGR, from Run 1, published in June of 1969, through the current issue! Digital subscribers can access every issue of OGR in the OGR Digital Library.

That's the ticket Rich!!!

What a great feature to add to the Digital Subscription.

Kudos to the team that put it together!

Alan,

I have received notice that the August/September 2021 issue is my last issue and my subscription has expired.

However, I submitted payment for both print and digital subscription renewals 6/20/21 but my account (s) is apparently not credited. I tried several times to call but got no answer and no returned phone call.

How can I get my account(s) reviewed and corrected so that I can continue to receive this wonder magazine in both print and digital formats ?

Once this is resolved then I will become a forum supporter by purchasing a membership.

Thanks !
