Hi guys, I've been a member of this forum for years on the O scale side.  But, because of some recent, wife induced, restrictions on how much of the basement I can use for trains I'm switching over to S scale.  Unlike O scale where DC rules (except for Lionel which I don't run)  I see that you can use either AC or DC for S scale.  My question is which is better to use - AC or DC?  And what are advantages and disadvantages of both?  I will be buying all scale rolling stock with scale wheels.  I will be running from a power pack or transformer for right now and DCC later on.

Thanks,  Rick

Rick,

I think it depends on where you want to go, sounds like you have a DC power pack or DC power with the O gauge set up. Why not stick with that for now, many people in S gauge use DC. I use ac but I am toy train/high rail and run the Legacy/TMCC system. You can always change power if you decide to go ac at a later time.
