I'm looking into adding a run through yard for my subways. My current layout is 4X16. The only expanding I'm going to do is for the yard. Using @Ken-Oscale's plan for 044.5in curves, I reconstructed the layout using 072 CC switches and 044.5in curves (both a big improvement in themselves). I would desire my yard to be at least 90" for my 6 car BMT subway. Thoughts on how I could cut in a switch in the curves for a 90" yard to happen. Attached are pictures of my layout and SCARM files of both my current layout (minus engine stall tracks to save on the 100 limit of the free program) and my planned layout with the additions described above. Thoughts? Also, I mocked up the yard in 036 which I don't want but I'll post that picture too. The section where the bins are is my space for the yard (16in. from the wall).

Sure, just remove straight track on each side of the oval until you're down to your maximum length.  16 feet equals 184 inches and subtracting 46 inches from each end (for the half circle) leaves you with about 94 inches.  Of course, then you have to allow for the switches to start your yard AND then you're down to less than 90 inches.

So, the less obnoxious answer to your question is NO if you want to keep the same diameter curve and the same length.  Mathematically, it just won't work.

Darn, Well I just won't park my BMT subways in the yard. I'll just use it as a station stop along the route.

Wait a minute.  Don't subtract 46 inches from each end.  Each end has HALF of a 46 inch diameter circle, so 23 inches is lost from each end.  Subtracting this from 16 feet (or 192 inches) leaves 146 inches.  Subtracting the 90 inch yard track length leaves 56 inches, or 28 inches at each end to lead into the yard track(s).

It seems like 2 yard tracks should work, but I admit I don't have scarm so I haven't actually drawn it out.

If need be, a two track yard wouldn't be a huge loss. I might have to draw that up.

I shorten the layout to 16 Feet,  The top siding id more than 113" measured  between the switches,  The two shorter sidings are 83" between over the straight track.  The arrangement of sidings reduced your overall width.  The bottom two tracks are less than 2.5" between centers.  Much to close.  You need to adjust your curve track arrangement.

It's certainly better than before. I think I'll be able to work with it.
