I have an MTH passenger car. The truck has a plastic insert connected to a wire for interior lighting.

The insert comes lose. I thought if I glue it, it would b secure BUT how would I get to the wire if it needed to be soldered.

I need a glue strong enough to hold the insert but weak enough to allow me to access the wire.

Photo attached.

Thanks,

Mark

Wax isn't something I'd expect to work real well as roller do get pretty warm and most waxes don't like heat at all.

A dab of silcone or plain old white caulk should allow it to be pulled apart "someday".

I don't know MTH trucks real well, but I'm guessing the clip legs/stays have warped from time or heat.  I've reshaped some if I recall (lionels for sure). Sometimes they broke and I used a "goo" as mentioned, but I also shim temporarily, so the set glue kinda wedges things; that holds the remaining leg(s) locked on the stays. I.e. it's almost a plug or "stop" vs an adhesive.

Thanks for the response. For the short term I will go with the temporary glue and then get a replacement part. My concern is that the insert plate issue is only a segment and I might need a new truck for everything to work as well as it should, which I will have checked at a later time. The car is from the MTH Lehigh Valley John Wilkes passenger set. I have the matching Weaver Black Diamond loco. It is awesome. I haven't run the set for a few years, so I am enjoying it.

Aleene's tacky at Michael's is an excellent glue to use for a strong long term hold yet razor blade or muscle snap  removable.  Yes, it is a Band-Aid but it is a very good Band-Aid.  Just use less than you might think for an easy clean up.  It drys clear.

I have used it for road bed on bridges, adding ties at tie strip gaps, building repairs, broken detail parts, tool box compartments, instrument panel labels and many household patch jobs.  Ten years and holding strong.

Lift out bridge example:

1 1/4" gauge strip holds the bridge, the fitter piece and the  mainline in horizontal alignment ,  The weight holds everything in vertical alignment.

Glue sets up over night.  Absolutely no movement.
