Re: AF O loco to identify

Hi, I've been trying to put a number on this prewar AF O loco. I've looked in vain through the Doyle catalogue but I cannot pinpoint the critter. With it, I have a set of cars, numbered 3006, 3012, 3013, 3014, plus a track trip with a patent date of 1.10.1922. I also have track and two switches, all 3 rail.The loco seems to be missing a rear truck, which would make it either a 2-4-2, or perhaps a 2-4-4 ??? No other clues. The paint looks original, a bit scratched. It operates well !

Can anyone help me ?

What you have there is a #401 Steam Loco Type XX and #3193 Vandy Tender. Very rare combination and came in uncatalogued sets only. It was a 2-4-0 as there is a gear driven whistle in the back of the loco taking up the room where the truck would be mounted. Very nice fine indeed!!

Gandy, Thanks for the info. I did not know I had a rare specimen in my hands !

You mention a whistle, which I now see. How would this whistle... whistle ?

And thanks for the reference thread... I found a lot of passionate collectors there.
