LOL! This comment kind of summarizes the hobby for those of us who grew up with trains.

Judging by the title of this thread, Ken's seems to have his radio dial stuck on 1010 WINS! All News All the time! You give them 22 Minutes... they bring you the world!
I remember fondly, Pete Bianco...from the Brooklyn store, the York Yellow Hall Booth and the Liberty State Park Train Show in NJ. He was a great guy who really knew how to sell trains...and talk about them with his customers too. I still have the MTH Rail King CNJ camelback that I bought from Pete in York years ago for $99.

A nice tribute to a family run Brooklyn hobby landmark! I am a Brooklynite by birth (Bushwick) and I have always had very satisfactory shopping experiences with Trainworld! Peter, the founder, was a unique character in our hobby and thankfully passed his enthusiasm to his family and that is wonderful!

Great article, I remember the old Brooklyn store as a kid. My Dad, a Brooklyn native himself, enjoyed talking to Pete Bianco Sr. I believe my first purchase there were two Marx floodlight towers and a sixteen dollar MPC switcher. The year was aprrox. 1970 and I earned my train money delivering the Daily News. Miketg

Liberty State Park Train Show ? Was that the one held in an old train station ? I remember going to a show in N.J. near the water, but could never remember the name of it.
I do remember it being a great show that had live steam whistles blowing outside.

I think it was a bit later than 1970... I lived "down the street" on East 7th off M in the early 70's and I vaguely remember they opened when I was working part-time for Chase Manhattan (and going to college) between '74 and '78 - I used to to catch the subway right next to the store, so I'd say they opened in '74 or '75. I still have a bunch of MPC pieces purchased there.
choo choo mike: You are correct. Show was called Rail Expo. Last show was in 1999. Also in later years had antique car show outside. Other years had steam whistles operated by on-site boiler steam. Also had motor car/speeder tracks too.
Greatest location for a train show!

Yes a great train show, really enjoyed going, 1980's, made the trip from Long Island, well worth it.
I enjoyed visiting the store this past spring on a business trip to NY City, took the train. Was able to buy a williams train off of one of their adds and they shipped it. My name was already in their system from past mail orders. Really fun trip on the train and nice to meet them!

Now you have my curiosity up, where in Bushwick? I grew up on Troutman St between Wilson & Knickerbocker Ave and went to St. Joseph Patron on Suydam St. It's a small world for sure!
