I recently bought a big lot of O gauge trains and in one of the boxes was a beet up AF 565 in O gauge. It is a really cool engine so I thought I would get it running. I have cleaned all the contacts but no dice. I have gotten it running in reverse and forward but not without having to giggle the e-unit around. Also, a wire fell off and I do not know where it goes. Does anyone have a schematic for this locomotive?

Just one point, the prewar American Flyer locos use different contact sets, the contacts on the front of the reverse unit are the same as the postwar, but the off set contacts on top of the reverse unit are opposite arranged, off set to the left, instead of to the right, as postwar locos use. Doug Peck has the correct contacts, do a google search to get his email address.

I actually have fixed this loco! I have seen online that you will have to replace the fingers in the reverse unit. To me, that's BALONY! I always use the original contacts in my Lionel trains and they're fine, why not AF? Sometimes I'll put a drop of solder on them if they're worn out.

I am trying to correctly wire my 565 but am not quite smart enough to understand any previous posts regarding that engine. To that end, I have attached my drawing with inquiries for this wiring. I would very much appreciate anyone's expertise.

An additional question, I see the pickup on the bottom but no wire from same.

Thanks much.
