I pulled my 6-48037 B&O Mikado off the shelf to let it stretch it's legs the other day.

(This engine was only included in set # 6-49612 B&O passenger set.)

(The Lionel Parts and manuals page is down now due to their move.)

I addressed the engine (set as #18) as usual with my TMCC Cab-1 and it did not respond. The headlight was bright so I figured it was getting the signal from the command base. I pushed the engine forward slightly and to my amazement the engine sounds started and continued but the engine would not respond to any commands. No whistle, bell or movement.

I turned off track power, set the engine to program, resumed track power and reprogrammed the engine as #18. Turned off track power, moved switch to RUN, resumed track power, address engine as #18...and...nothing ...again.

So I went for a complete reset following the method as described in the manual.

Tried to address engine again...nothing. The engine sounds would again start if I manually moved the engine forward (or backwards) but still no response to the cab-1.

The cab-1 did control other engines perfectly so at least it was working.

I unplugged the command base and applied power to the track (conventional mode) and the engine responded perfectly...lights, engine sounds, whistle, bell, direction, movement etc.

So at least it works in conventional mode.

Please help with any suggestions as to how to restore command mode to this engine.

Thanks.

Mark

The R2LC receiver is the board at the rear of the loco.

If the headlight did not flash when you programed then it was not  processing the signal.

There are 3 screws to remove the shell.  One behind the boiler front door, and two under the rear of the cab. Getting the thing back together can be tricky due to the front handrails.
