American Flyer Crossovers

I have seen the fabricated Gilbert type crossovers you are talking about, but only on eBay. 

The 36" track should not be that hard to find, I see it fairly often at shows and online.  I know Denny's Trains and Things in Oswego Illinois has some if you wanted to give a call.

I would be careful using Kline S gauge track, the track gauge is different from AF>>>

It's not so much the gauge, but the way the rail is formed, the K-Line pins are slightly too large.

The guy that was making those American Flyer crossovers in various crossover angles died about 6 months ago.  He was from Rochester. Mi.

That's a shame. I wonder if his molds might be procured by someone else to continue the production?

I do not know of anyone that has taken over his production of the crossovers or that acquired any of his tooling.

That's true, but it doesn't match up well with a traditional track layout. These "custom" crossovers looked like ACG's design, and the guy had apparently worked out the problem of power interruption in the crossing--The ACG ones were only 90 degrees because that's provided the shortest distance of power interruption, so that one wheel would always be on a conducting rail. If anyone has his name/address maybe one of could contact the relatives to see if the tooling still exists and might be available for purchase. It's a long shot!

As far as I know, the wife of the person who was making the crossovers gave his entire collection to an auction house last October.  The auction facility was somewhere in Pa.  The wife said they took everything she had related to his train collection.  I don't know if the auction has taken place, but I would assume it has.
